Xavier’s mouth falls open in shock. “Youwhat?”

It takes me a second to react, partly because I’m so

stunned by the words, but mostly because I’m still really sluggish and my brain isn’t functioning all that well. “What? No! We didn’t—it wasn’t—I wouldn’t—“

“Hey, I’m not any happier about this than you,” Alastor says smoothly, his face screwed up in distaste as he turns his gaze back to me for a second. “I’m going to have to shower for weeks.” He gives a shiver, which prompts Xavier to roll his eyes.

“Okay, I’m going to leave you two to sort out what- ever...this is,” he says, waving his finger back and forth between the two of us. “Just try not to kill each other.”

As soon as Xav’s gone, I jump off the bed and stalk toward Alastor, eyes narrowed in a hard glare. “Why the fuck would you tell him that?”

Alastor arches a mocking brow. “What? Afraid he’s going to tell Trent and then he won’t want you anymore?”

My hands ball into angry fists at my sides as frustration boils inside me. “That’s not why,” I grate out.

“Can you think of any other reason for you to be half naked in my bed?” Alastor asks. “Or was I supposed to tell him I kept you in here to stop you telling everyone how you’re madly in love with his husband?”

“I—” I falter, the anger draining from me as I realise Alastor’s right. There’s no world in which Alastor and I would just be hanging out in his room. Apart from the truth, the only thing that makes sense is a one-night stand.

I let out a resigned sigh. “Fine. It was a one-time thing. We were blind drunk and we both hated it.”

He offers a wry smirk. “Ihated it. You didn’t. Trust me, Macey—no one hates having sex with me.”

Arrogant bastard.

Alastor

Hmm...I wonder if they have waffles here? It’s the only thought going through my mind as I enter the resort’s restaurant and make a beeline for the buffet breakfast. My stomach has been growling for hours, so as soon as I managed to get Jack Macey out of my room, I tossed on some boardies and a t-shirt and made my way downstairs to the restaurant.

I’m just about to reach the waffle station when I’m yanked out of the line, my breakfast plans thwarted.

“What the hell?” I turn to find Vanessa standing in front of me with her arms crossed, a disapproving look on her face, while another of my sisters—Molly, the baby of the family—yanks at my wrist. “Ow, let go!” I give my wrist a shake and manage to free her grip. “What the fuck?” I demand with a glare.

“I think we’ll be asking the questions here,” Vanessa says in her best imitation of aLaw & Orderdetective. Then she spins on her heel and beckons for me and Molly to follow .

“What about my breakfast?”

Molly strides over to a table laden with pastries and grabs a croissant, placing it on one of the supplied plates. Then she adds a banana and a tub of yoghurt, shoving the plate into my chest. “Here.”

I glance down at my breakfast unenthusiastically. “Great...”

Knowing that ignoring them will only cause more drama, I follow Molly to the table Vanessa is now seated at. It’s in a quiet corner of the restaurant, away from the other wedding guests who have also opted for a late breakfast.

“Oh, you’ve got to be kidding me,” I mutter when I take my seat and realise Vanessa has her iPad set up on the table, my sister Carly’s face on the screen.

I have three sisters, all younger than me and all pains in my arse. I love them, of course, but they’re annoying as hell. Especially when they activate their sister power rings and combine forces in an attempt to fix whatever mess they think I’ve made.

“Good morning to you too, bro,” Carly says, sticking out her tongue at me. She was invited to the wedding along with Vanessa and Molly, but she’s seven months pregnant so had to pass. My parents were invited too, but they’ve retired in Italy and were only just home for Christmas a month ago. Another long haul flight so soon seemed a bit much for them.

“Itwasa good morning until you two denied me waffles,” I grumble, fixing Vanessa and Molly with a hard glare.

Vanessa folds her arms across her chest, arching a pointed brow at me. “Oh, was it a good morning because of all the sex?”

I almost choke on a piece of my croissant. Coughing hard, I gratefully accept a glass of water Molly pours for me from the bottle on the table and take a few swigs. “What?”

Vanessa narrows her eyes. “Don’t act all shocked. We know you hooked up with Jack. Everyone’s been talking about it all morning.”
