Jack

“We should really get going if we’re having tea at Alicia’s,” Xav comments to Trent, hauling himself out of his chair and striding over to the kitchen to dump his empty beer bottle in the recycling.

Trent nods and drains his beer as well. “True. She’ll be all pissy if the kids have to wait for us.” He gets to his feet, but then glances at me, noticing I still have half my beer left. “Oh, shit. Maybe we should wait for Jack.”

His concern is understandable, but inconvenient. The party wrapped up about an hour ago, so it’s just been the four of us since then. If Trent and Xav leave, Alastor and I will be on our own. I’m tempted to just come out and tell them the truth right now, but I still have that niggling feeling that tells me it will be better to wait until we sort out exactly what’s going on between us before sharing it with other people.

I roll my eyes in response to Trent’s comment. “You don’t have to babysit us. I promise not to kill him in the ten minutes it takes to finish my beer.”

Xav lets out a soft chuckle, but he casts a wary look at Alastor .

“I’ll be good, I swear,” Alastor assures him, holding his hands up.

“Alright.” Xav gives a shrug, still looking a little hesitant. Threading his hand through Trent’s, he leads them out of the living room and down the hall. I catch the words ‘blood bath’ and ‘grown men’ and barely manage to stifle a laugh.

It takes us about two seconds after we hear the front door closer for me to set down my beer and climb onto Alastor’s lap, attacking him with my mouth. I swear this has been one of the longest days of my life—after our plans for a day in bed were thwarted this morning, I seriously don’t think my balls have ever been so blue, and being in Alastor’s presence all afternoon and not being able to touch him? Absolute hell. Clearly, he’s on the same wavelength because he doesn’t push me away like the sex- crazed lunatic I so obviously am. Instead, he kisses me back just as hard, his hands roaming my body, his hard dick grinding against mine.

“Fuck, I want you,” I groan against his lips before moving my kisses down his jaw and over his neck. “Only you. Always you.”

“You have me,” he rasps in that sexy rumble.

I crash my lips back to his, kissing desperately. Hungrily. As though I’ll never get enough.

“Off,” he tells me, tugging at my t-t-shirt, and I oblige, reaching behind my neck to tug my tee over my head. His eyes grow even more heated as he takes in my body, his hands gliding over my torso.

I slam my mouth back to his for a hungry kiss and am just in the process of tugging his t-shirt up so it can go the same way as my own when I hear Xavier’s voice. “Hey, sorry Al, just forgot my—argh! What the fuck?”

We manage to drag ourselves out of our lust-filled trance to find Xavier standing in the living room, a horrified expression on his face. I’m stupefied for a moment, completely unable to move. But then I hear Trent’s foot- steps in the hall and it spurs me into action.

I climb off Alastor and settle onto the other side of the couch, pulling a cushion over my obvious stiffy just as Trent wanders in, no doubt curious about his husband’s outburst.

“It’s not what it looked like,” I say lamely, feeling my face flush with embarrassment.

Xavier’s brows shoot up with incredulity. “Oh, so you weren’t just grinding all over Alastor with your tongue down his throat? ‘cause that’s what it looked like.”

Trent lets out a choked laugh of obvious disbelief. “What?”

“Alright,” Alastor says with a shrug. “It was exactly what it looked like.”

I cut him an annoyed look—he issonot helping. But all he does is shrug once again. Dick.

“So...are you two, like...together?” Xavier asks, the freaked-out expression slipping into one of curiosity.

“Uhh...” I wait for Alastor to jump in and explain that it’s just sex, but he’s staying uncharacteristically mum, so it’s up to me. “No. We’re just messing around.”

I see a look of concern flick across Trent’s face. I have no doubt he’s recalling our conversation from a couple of weeks ago about seeing people differently. Oddly, I see similar concern in Xavier’s expression. I would have thought he’d be more worried about Alastor. I’m the devil, after all, and Alastor’s his best mate. But I guess if there’s anyone who can take care of themselves, it’s Alastor King.

“So, you guys like each other now?” Trent asks, sounding hopeful.

Alastor gets to his feet and grabs my discarded beer from the coffee table, taking a swig. For a second, I can’t help feeling a little pang at the distance he’s putting between us. It’s ridiculous, I know, but at least while he was on the couch next to me it felt like we were in this together. “You don’t need to like someone to have sex with them,” he tells Trent, as though that should be obvious.

I somehow manage not to flinch at his words, but inside, I’m reeling. Why did I think he might have changed his mind about me? Because he likes having sex with me? He likes pushing me past my boundaries? He told me I’m...enough. Yeah, that’s super flattering. A great love declaration right there.

I try to catch his eye, looking for some measure of reassurance. Maybe he’s just saying this to get Xavier and Trent off our backs. But he won’t even look at me.

I glance over at Trent, seeking out his steady reassurance, and am shocked to find him glaring at Alastor as though he’d love nothing more than to deck him. Well, damn. I guess if there’s one person in the world who could make someone as easy going as Trent lose his cool it’s going to be Alastor.
