“Only if we can be smug, annoying, newly engaged people who make out on the ski lift all night,” he says.

“Heck yeah, we can,” I say. “We’ll be the smuggest and most annoying of all.”

And we are.

* * *

The next year, we rent out the entire Mount Love resort for our wedding the day before Valentine’s Day, and all our friends and family stay over at the lodge so we can do the annual night ski together.

Elliot and Nancy are there with little baby Shane, their precious son. Luke and a very pregnant Holly Jo hold court in the lobby, watching us tear down the hill through the window, and Ashton, my new sister-in-law, shows up with a mystery man who’s super intriguing.

And perhaps most perfect of all, Violet gets a proposal from Fred, her land conservationist boyfriend, who is not a lumberjack, but still very, very nice.

It’s all good and getting better every day.

“Thank you,” Bran says as we soar toward the glowing heart arch at the top of the ski lift. “For making all my dreams come true.”

I know he isn’t talking about giving him half the mountain for his rec park or agreeing to move into the mansion and rent out my cottage.

He’s talking about his forever dreams, the same ones he’s made come true for me.

“Back at ya,” I say, kissing him hard and fast.

Then we jump off the ski lift and swish out onto the softly glowing snow, heading into the rest of our life, side by side.
