“Oh, geez.”

“He wasn’t answering my texts or calls for like an entire day so I thought he had a heart attack. I let myself into his condo with a key and there they were. In bed. Naked. You can guess the rest.”

“Oh.” Eddie was trying to hold back a smile. She had her lips pursed. “I’m sorry.”

“It’s not funny.”

“I’m not laughing.”

“You’re trying not to.”

A giggle escaped before she could prevent it. “Come on, it’s a little funny. Admit it.”

“It’s really not,” he said, and he meant that with every bone in his damn body. “I don’t want to know about my dad’s sex life all up close and personal like that. Besides, she’s a lot younger than him. He could definitely have a heart attack.”

Eddie laughed. She clapped her hand over her mouth but her amber eyes danced with amusement. “I think you’re overestimating how many men in their fifties have heart attacks during sex. When do you even hear of that happening? He’s not ninety.”

“Men have heart attacks,” he protested.

“During sex? That’s like one out of every twenty thousand heart attacks or something.”

“Where do you get that statistic from? Now you’re just making shit up.” But he saw her point and she was right. Itwaskind of funny. Even funnier if it was someone else’s father and not his.

“We should look it up online.”

He held his hand up, palm out to her. “That’s really not necessary. I’m good just not thinking about it at all. Ever again.”

“Do you think they’re serious about each other?”

“Hell if I know. They’re definitely together a lot.” He sipped his beer. “If they’re happy, I’m happy. I just never saw this one coming.”

“There is no explaining attraction, is there?”

That was the damn truth. He shouldn’t be attracted toher, and yet he was. She was off-limits. Way off-limits. Yet that didn’t stop him from having incredibly dirty thoughts about sliding his tongue up her slender inner thigh.

He’d spent an hour unpacking his stuff with Finn at Eddie’s apartment that morning, before deciding he needed to get the hell out of there. It was too close quarters and he felt her presence strongly as she’d sat first in the dining area, then sprawled out on the sofa working. He’d felt both like he was intruding, as he listened to her fielding phone call after online meeting after phone call, and that he was far too aware of her as a woman. She smelled like vanilla from the lotion she repeatedly slathered on her hands and legs. She was a lotion junkie. She also used lip balm over and over in what seemed to be a subconscious focusing technique when she worked.

All in all, he had found her fascinating and very female, and so he’d taken Finn to the park to escape temptation.

“Nope,” he said. “There is no explaining attraction. But my point was, way back in the beginning of this conversation, I wasn’t laughing at you that morning.”

“Thank you. I get insecure driving. I’ve never been very good at it because my mom never let me drive in the city. So then I lash out if I think I’m being teased. I’m sorry if I was rude.”

“If you ever want a lesson in parallel parking, let me know. I don’t have a lot of claims to fame, but that’s one of them. I can fit my big truck into the tightest spot.”

He didn’t intend for it to sound dirty but it sort of did. She clearly thought so too because she didn’t say anything. His words just hung in the air for a second, before they both started laughing.

“I swear on my life,” he said, as he got a hold of himself. “I did not mean for that to sound like that. Why the hell does everything sound sexual?”

“Because you have a filthy mind,” Torin said as he walked past.

“Fuck off,” Sullivan retorted, annoyed they’d been interrupted.

“I actually would appreciate a lesson in parallel parking,” Eddie said, “but now I’m afraid if I ask it will sound flirtatious.”

Sullivan took a long pull on his beer bottle, determined to ignore the sexual thoughts in his head that were running amok. His cousin was right and that annoyed him. He did have a filthy mind. He also wanted to be known for more than just his extracurricular sexual activities.

“It wouldn’t sound flirtatious,” he told her. “You don’t give off that vibe.”
