Eddie frowned. “Still, though. That must have been big news.”

“It was,” Angel said. “Because I died.”

She loved that part.

“But my parents kept me out of the media and away from everyone for a while because I started seeing ghosts and they thought I was having some kind of breakdown from the trauma of going through the ice.”

“Her name isn’t even Angel,” Sullivan pointed out. “That was a self-proclaimed nickname that my aunt was afraid not to use in case it further traumatized her.” He honestly didn’t remember much about Angel’s personality pre-incident, but since then she had definitely done her own thing and didn’t care what anyone thought.

“Maybe you can reassure Sullivan that I’m just here to help him. That he might feel better if he hears the message from Kendra.” She smiled encouragingly at Eddie. “Actually, he’ll definitely feel better.”

“Oh, I don’t think I should get involved either way,” Eddie protested. “That’s a very personal decision for Sullivan.”

“Do you believe in ghosts?” Sullivan asked her, curious.

He didn’t know what he believed. Though he clearly must believe something, otherwise he wouldn’t care what Angel would tell him. He would just consider it bullshit. But deep down he was afraid one, he would believe her. Two, it would rip open his heart if Kendra wasn’t happy with him.

He had worked really hard to ignore his stupid heart and any and all emotions that didn’t have to do with Finn.

He’d just been piling one-night stands on top of his feelings until they had been crushed.

It had worked.

For the most part.

Until yesterday.

Eddie gave a slight shrug, her delicate shoulder rising. “I don’t know. I think there are definitely things in this world we don’t understand.”

Suddenly, she jumped a little and shivered. She glanced behind her.

Sullivan frowned. “What’s wrong?”

“Nothing.” Eddie shook her head rapidly.

She looked scared.

If he did believe in ghosts, he would think she’d just been brushed by one.

Suddenly, Sullivan hoped like hell Kendra wasn’t trying to scare off Eddie. He’d always assumed Kendra, being the generous woman that she was, would be happy for him if he expressed genuine interest in a woman. Not that he was, because Eddie was off limits. But maybe Kendra didn’t know that. Who knew what they knew on the other side? Maybe she was jealous or thought Eddie wasn’t right for him or maybe she thought he was just an idiot for being attracted to the least available woman possible.

He found himself mentally trying to convince his dead wife that he didn’t have sexual feelings or any feelings other than friendship for his childhood friend turned model turned temptation in its purest form.

He could have sworn he heard Kendra laughing at his justifications.

Because who was he trying to convince, Kendra or himself?

He looked at his half empty beer bottle. As if there were any answers there in the amber liquid.

Just like there weren’t any answers in Eddie’s amber eyes.

Sullivan sighed.

Chapter7

Something had touched Edwina. She was sure of it. It hadn’t felt like a bug landing on her, but something heavier, like a hand resting gently on her shoulder. But that didn’t make sense because no one was near her. She’d had eyes on Sullivan and Angel and neither had reached out. It had to be the wind or an insect or Sullivan’s dead wife…

No, that was impossible. Even if ghosts existed and Kendra had joined them around the bonfire, she would touch her husband, not Edwina. She had just gotten herself caught up in the moment because of Sullivan’s cousin.
