She saw more than he wanted her to see.

The question was, what the hell did she do about it?

Chapter11

Sullivan breathed a sigh of relief that Eddie was heading back down to the water.

He had just gotten busted drooling over her ass. He couldn’t help himself. She’d stood up and there were just legs and a tight ass swaying in front of him. She walked like the model she had been.

Astrid’s question rang in his ears. Did he ever have an unrequited crush?

That was a question he had no intention of answering honestly.

Because the answer was yes.

Now.

He couldn’t even watch her walk in a bikini without acting like an idiot.

Kicked over the sunscreen. Jesus.

He had a crush on Eddie and she was in a relationship with another guy. It was the first time he’d ever experienced that and he hated it. Legitimately hated it.

It was pointless and distracting and just rude. Like the universe was laughing at him. What, he hadn’t gotten the shit end of the stick by losing Kendra? He had to fall for the only woman he couldn’t have? It was fucking karmic bullshit, that’s what it was. So as much as he hated to see Eddie leave, at least he could go back to the status quo of his life and not spend all his time in the shower imagining her naked. He wouldn’t be able to afford the water bill if this kept up.

The bikini wasn’t helping. She was damn near naked. Almost as naked as that photo Torin had shown him. Only that was just an image on a screen. This was live. In person. He could smell the sunscreen on her warm skin when she brushed past him with a smile and headed for the shoreline.

He watched her walk, studying her long legs, her tight little ass, the curve of her spine, and her thick dark hair tumbling down her back.

It was, quite frankly, fucking torture.

Time to get in the lake and cool himself down.

“Finn, you ready to go in the water?” he asked, watching his son kick sand toward the deck.

“No,” Finn said.

Okay, then.

Jesse was playing with Licorice, running suicides with the dog alongside him. The puppy looked like she could go all day at it, leaping joyfully. Jesse was pumping his legs hard to run in the sand, breaking a sweat in what seemed to be a growing competition with the dog.

Astrid looked content to lay on the towel and watch them.

“So you and Eddie were friends in middle school, hmm?” she asked.

Astrid was on to him. Her tone was an attempt at casualness but she sounded very curious.

People newly in love wanted everyone else to be in love.

Sullivan sighed. Everyone he fucking knew was in love these days, including his own father, who he had counted on to be a bachelor for eternity. If he wanted to avoid being surrounded by gushy couples in love, he was going to have to solely hang out with Torin. It was depressing.

“I guess. Mostly we were teammates.”

“You don’t look at her like she’s a teammate.” Her tone was a gleeful little sing song.

“What do you want me to say?” he asked, throwing his hands up in the air. “She’s gorgeous. She has a body for days. Fordays. I look at it, so what? That’s not a crime, is it?”

“Of course not. Make a move if that’s how you feel.”
