“I pick whatever side of the bed isn’t by the door. If a crazed killer breaks in, I want him to get to you first.”

“That goes without saying,” he said. “But the door is in the middle of the wall, which is weird.” Maybe they needed to move. He’d had sex with far too many women in that house. But he didn’t want to get ahead of himself. He had them moving before they were even living together.

Come to think of it, he’d forgotten to actually propose. He’d been so busy selling her on how he could make her happy, he’d forgotten the whole “will you marry me?” part of the equation.

He needed to figure out a way to do that before the end of the night.

“That is weird,” she said. “But then I pick the left.”

“Done. By the way, Finn is at home with a babysitter. Once the wedding is over, she’s going to leave and we’re going to have to be quiet so we don’t disturb Finn. Is that okay? It’s not ideal but I wasn’t expecting that I would get to fuck you tonight.”

“I can be quiet.” She kissed him softly. “Give me another two minutes and I’ll pack an overnight bag so we don’t have to come back here.”

“Sure. But don’t bother with pajamas. You’re sleeping in my T-shirt with no underwear. I’ve been fantasizing about that for months and you have the power to make my dreams come true.”

Eddie laughed. “That’s your fantasy? It sounds like what I wrote in my diary about you in the eighth grade.”

“You wrote about me in your diary?” That was an intriguing fact. He watched her take a satchel and shove a few items in it.

“Every day. I was very dramatic about my feelings for you.”

That made him grin. “Can I read your diary?”

“No. Absolutely not.” She disappeared into the bathroom again.

“And I have more fantasies than just you wearing my shirt,” he called out, just to make sure that was clear. “I can explain them all in detail to you later. Some are probably illegal in certain states.”

Eddie reappeared in the doorframe of the bathroom. She raised one arm and leaned against it, all long legs and short skirt and thick wavy hair. “You can just show me.”

He held his hands up to frame her out. “Just like that. I want to remember this forever and always.”

Her face softened. “Sullivan,” she murmured. “I’m glad to be home.”

“I love you,” he said, lowering his hands. “You have no idea how happy I am that you’re home.”

Reaching out, he took her hand and tugged her to him. The heels put them at an even height. He could look straight into her amber eyes. “I wanted so badly to kiss you that night after we spent the day at Jesse’s. If it wasn't for your father flicking the light on, I would have. And now I get to kiss you all I want.”

The corner of her mouth turned up. “Just one and then we should go before I take this dress back off.”

He kissed her briefly, closing his eyes to let the moment linger, just a little, soaking in the way she felt in his arms, the feel of her mouth parting beneath his, her ever-present lotion scent.

“Damn it,” he said, groaning. “Let’s go.”

He held her hand as they went down the stairs, but Eddie walked in heels like she was born in them. Or had been a model.

Her father was on the back porch, quickly trying to hide the fact that he was smoking a blunt. There was no disguising the smell though and Sullivan shot him a grin.

“Dad!” Eddie said, sounding scandalized. “What are you doing?”

“It’s medicinal. For my foot.”

He bet it was.

“Where are you two kids off to? You look very pretty, Edwina.”

“Thanks, Dad.”

“Axl’s wedding,” Sullivan said. “Don’t wait up, sir.”
