My pulse quickens and heat floods between my thighs. Nervously looking around the room, I quickly shove the phone into my lap as if they can all see my texts. It’s silly, I know, but I can feel my cheeks already burning.

And so it begins.

L: You have a very dirty mouth.

When my phone vibrates in my lap, Miles darts his eyes in my direction, lifting an eyebrow. Next to him is Wyatt who seems unaffected and oddly riveted by Lewis’s presentation while she takes notes. Usually, I’m never distracted during meetings, even ones where Lewis drones on with his regulatory legal jargon that no one can understand.

Discreetly, I turn the phone over to read the next text while it’s still in my lap.

A: I happen to know that you like my dirty mouth.

Raising a pen to my lips, I begin chewing on the cap while images of Adrian invade my mind – dark hair falling in his face, brown eyes peering at me through impossibly long lashes, and those soft lips that pinned me to the post on my front porch while his hands gripped my hair.

Narrowing my eyes at the phone as if he could see me, I type my response.

L: I’m a grown woman. I don’t sext, or whatever this is.

A: Tell me you don’t want me to bend you over that table.

Pressing my lips together, I try to suppress a smile by bringing my fist to my mouth and coughing softly. Letting the strap of my shoe fall past my ankle, it swings freely as I shake my foot nervously.

L: Adrian, I’m serious.

A: While I slowly push your skirt up over your perfect ass.

L: Someone could see my phone!

Getting more nervous I look around the room, but no one is paying attention to me and they are oblivious to the fact that my flooring contractor issextingme.

A: And press your face to that shiny wood table while slipping my fingers under your panties.

While he continues I squirm in my chair, looking to the empty space between me and Lewis that is slowly filling up with the image of Adrian pushing my skirt up, and pressing my face into the wood.

A: Feel how wet you are for me…

L: I’m putting my phone away.

Seeing the ellipses, there is no way I can turn my phone off now and I’m sure he knows it.

Twirling the pen between my fingers, my attention is drawn back to the room when Asa Waterman, the man whose business we’re acquiring, speaks up asking Lewis to elaborate on our regulatory change management process to be able to identify international consumer laws. Feeling the groan that threatens to erupt from my throat I suppress it as best I can, tilting my head in Asa’s direction to give him a dirty look.

I was never very fond of him in the first place and the feeling is mutual, except when he’s staring at my cleavage. He’s a fifty-something year old man who’s going to make a lot of money, but instead of retiring, he wants a seat on the Board. Men like him want one thing; all the control with little responsibility.

In my lap I feel the phone vibrate against the already growing ache between my legs, and I press them together as I turn my phone over discreetly.

A: Before I fuck you so hard you scream my name.

Running a hand through my hair, I let it fall over my face and press my knuckles to my mouth as I read his words over again, suppressing a smile.

Crossing and uncrossing my legs under the table, I try desperately to relieve the ache as the room becomes hotter. As if that weren’t enough, he continues to text.

A: And I’m not even done with you yet because I want those fucking expensive gold heels wrapped around my neck.

“Lake!”

Startled and already rattled by the message I just read, my phone slips out of my hand and into the air. As I scramble to grab it, praying to the Holy Spirit that it doesn’t land upright for someone to see, the phone bangs on the table getting the attention of everyone in the room. Before Miles can grab it, I snatch it up, switching it off before tossing it in my laptop bag. Miles purses his lips, obviously wanting to say something but he can’t.

“Yes, sorry,” I say, diverting my attention to Glen.
