“I think it’s best for us to go out and get some fresh air,” I say. “Clear my head.”

“Okay, stay right there.” He gets out, runs around to my side, and opens the door for me. I don’t know why he’s being so nice to me. But what I do know is that he didn’t ditch with me because he felt an obligation as my fake boyfriend. No, he’s with me as a friend.

He peeks inside. “Do you need a minute?”

I snap out of my thoughts as I glance up at him. “I was just thinking how kind you’re being to me. I mean, you should dance around because my app failed.”

He cringes like the thought makes him sick. “I’d never gloat at someone else’s failure. Especially yours, Willow.”

I just stare up at him. His face is soft, eyes filled with a kindness I’ve never seen on anyone except for my friends and family. He and I have only been friends for a few weeks, but he’s treating me like I’m important. Special to him for some reason.

He squints at me. “You good?”

“Yeah. I’m okay, thanks.”

I get out of the car and glance around. I’ve been to this park a few times. It’s at the other end of Edenbury and very large and beautiful. I remember my friends and I running around and chasing each other when we were little, going on the swings and the playground. Lily and Liam were so competitive with each other, bragging who could swing higher. I smile just thinking about it.

“What?” Colts asks with curious eyes. “You look like you’re remembering something.”

As we enter the park and take a stroll around, I tell him about my happy memories here. He smiles as if he can picture it.

“Have you always lived in Edenbury?” he asks.

“All my life. My friends think we’ll all settle down here like our parents after college. Raise our kids together and everything. It actually sounds pretty neat.”

He’s quiet, maybe thinking over my words. But he doesn’t say anything.

“What do you want for your future?” I ask.

He shoves his hands into his pockets. “Not sure yet. I have some ideas, but I really don’t know.”

“That’s okay. You’ll figure it out.”

He nods.

We continue walking in silence. There aren’t many people here since it’s still morning, but I see some kids and their parents on the swings and playgrounds.

“What’s your favorite ice cream flavor?” he suddenly asks.

I lift my brow at him. “That was random.”

Chuckling, he tilts his head toward the left, and that’s when I notice an ice cream stand. “Thought you might like some ice cream.”

“Oh, thanks. I’m not much of an ice cream person, so I don’t really care about flavors. I guess if I had to choose, I’d go with vanilla.”

He stops and turns to me. “That’s it?”

I shrug. “Yeah.”

“All right, then. Vanilla it is.”

He makes a move to head to the stand, but I say, “Wait.”

He turns around.

“I think I’m in the mood for something different. Something wild.”

A wide smile breaks out on his face. “I know the perfect thing to help you feel better.”
