As he pulls over a chair from another table, I can see Lily’s wheels spinning. I shoot her a look, warning her not to read too much into this.

“What are we talking about?” Colt asks as he cuts into his chicken.

Lily shrugs. “Nothing, really. So, Colt, how would you describe your perfect girl?”

I shoot her another look, and she returns an innocent one.

Liam shakes his head, knowing exactly what his twin sister is up to. Cupid Lily strikes again—this time, with me as her victim. Fun…

Colt’s fork and knife freeze in his hands. “Uh…well…”

“You’re making him uncomfortable, Lily,” I hiss.

She gives me another innocent face. “I’m trying to get to know your boyfriend, Willow.”

“Fakeboyfriend.”

She waves her hand. “Well, Colt?”

“He loves Vanessa,” I say. “That’s how he would describe his perfect girl.”

Speaking of his ex, I find her sitting at a table with the guy she was flirting with at the party, and a few other popular kids. She keeps glaring at me.

Good. The more jealous she is, the more she’ll want Colt back. And more drama means more attention to me, which means people will download and interact with my app. Win-win.

“I’m still waiting,” Lily says to Colt.

“Lil, give the guy a break,” Liam says.

She sighs. “Fine. What do you like to do in your free time, Colt?”

He stabs his chicken. “Hang out with my friends.”

“And?”

His eyes flit to me. I want to tell him that he can trust my friends and tell them his real interests, but he doesn’t look comfortable sharing that part of himself.

He shrugs. “Posting on Spill It!.”

Her eyebrows knit. “Okay. I guess you’re not a reader, huh?”

“Not at all.”

She turns to the rest of us girls. “We need to get these guys reading. They have no idea what they’re missing out on.”

Liam raises his hand. “Hey, I read.”

“You’re a Musketeer. You don’t count.”

Colt glances from one of us to the other. “Musketeer?”

Ava proceeds to tell him how that name came to be, first with our moms and then with us.

His eyes widen. “Wait. All of your parents are best friends?”

“Yep,” Chloe says. “Our moms met our dads in high school and have been together ever since.”

He gets a look on his face, one I can’t describe. Is it…jealousy? Loss? I’m not sure. But it vanishes quickly, so I can’t linger on it.
