I look over at Coco and she’s staring down at a screen. “Four million,” she announces, letting the bidder know that the other men in the audience are challenging him.

The shadowed voice in the back shouts back, “Five million.”

“Six million,” Coco quickly responds.

The crowd in the tent whispers loudly, lots of buzz. No one got to six million.

“Seven million.”

I put a hand over my mouth and find myself wishing this man was the winner. His voice is soothing and sexy. Sexy? I can’t believe I’m thinking this.

“Eight million,” Coco throws back.

“Twenty million,” the deep, raspy voice bellows.

There's a gasp in the crowd.

Coco has a look of avarice in her eyes. “Twenty million going once. Twenty million going twice. Sold. And we’re also having another on-the-spot wedding,” Coco shouts. “Thank you everyone for your continued attendance. Better luck next time.”

The crowd gives a light clap as well as a chorus of grumbles from the losers.

This man doesn’t even wait for the usual niceties. I can see his huge form coming for me. In one smooth, powerful motion he leaps onto the stage and takes my hand. I look up at him in shock.

The spotlight shines on him too and I can see him clearly.

His skin is dark grey and his thick black hair is cut short, which gives him a ruthless look. He’s wearing a tux but for some reason has decided to forego the white shirt, which means his chest is bare, allowing a perfect view of his six-pack abs. His crotch is obscenely tented underneath his black pants and heavy belt.

And he’s gazing down at me with blazing red eyes.

I can clearly see fangs, no…those are gleaming white tusks elongating from just under his lush lips and down either side of his chin.

Holy crap. He’s…he’s not even human.

Is this a joke? I blink and look around, stunned to find myself alone with this guy. The other girls are gone and all the auction house staff have conveniently disappeared.

A cold breeze hits my back as the nearby tent flap mysteriously opens.

He grabs my shoulders and buries his nose in my hair and inhales. “You are my mate,” he declares.

A scream escapes my lips because I’ve never met an alien and I’m losing it. I can’t marry someone who isn’t even human, right?

I beat my fists against his hairy chest. And then he grins, sweeps me up into his arms and stomps off into the night.
