“Bullshit,” I snapped, forcing my way inside. “You say that, yet you kissed me, teased me, hugged me.”

“That means nothing.”

My gaze darkened. “We both know that’s not true.” I hesitated as her warm, brown gaze widened; my heart skipped a beat. “Salenia wants me to kill you,” I blurted, finally admitting the truth. I wasn’t sure why I’d held off telling her—maybe because I knew she would go after Salenia and do something that would get her killed. Or perhaps it was a selfish part of me that wanted to hold on to her for as long as possible.

She nodded slowly, scrunching her mouth. “Well, I’m shocked,” she said, then rolled her eyes.

“I’m going to get you out of here, tonight.” My breath caught in my throat as I looked at her, still buzzing from the blood high. Her gaze traveled to the splatters of blood on my shirt, but said nothing. “But first…”

“Niall, wait—”

“No, I’m doing this first.” I walked toward her, and she backed away until her back thumped against a wall. “You say you don’t want me,” I said, lowering my mouth to her knee, keeping my arms either side of her, “but you keep luring me in. I think you know exactly what you want, but you’re too scared to do anything about it.”

Her gulp sounded in my ears, her eyes transfixed as she stared at me. “I want you to turn me into a vampire.”

My eyes widened, my arms dropping, not expecting that response. The vision I’d had of her pierced back into my memory, hazing my judgement. “I can’t.”

“Since when did you have morals?” she asked, tilting her head as I took a step back. “It’s like the only thing I can count on your for.”

“Sorry to disappoint.”

“You have! My sister is here and I’m not leaving.”

“You can still have a life outside of all this. It’s too late for Carla, but it’s not for you.”

She scoffed a laugh. “You know nothing about family, do you?”

“Mine died long ago.”

“I’ll clue you in then.” Her hand balled into a fist. “You don’t leave your family behind. I would never choose my happiness over hers. That’s what love is, Niall. It’s the most rewarding thing in the world, but it does not come without sacrifice.”

“The sacrifice will be your life. Salenia will want you dead, vampire or not. Why stay knowing it means your death?”

She chewed on the inside of her lip. “Because,” she said, her breath hitching, “I want to bring down Salenia. She killed my sister!”

“She’s still alive. She’s just a vampire.” I couldn’t take my eyes off her chest. I hated she had this power over me, but whenever I was close to her, I surrendered. There was something about her that pulled me in, then consumed me, as if there was no one or nothing else in this world but her.

“You will turn me,” she stated, her eyes gleaming with a fierceness that set my soul alight. “If you do, I’ll show you what I really want.” My heart skipped a beat, her pouty lips pressing together as she inched closer. “I…” She hesitated.

“Say it,” I growled, growing impatient as her scent had me on edge, my pants tightening around my dick.

“I hate you,” she confessed, but grew nearer. “But…”

“But youdofeel something for me?”

Her bottom lip trembled, the room melting away around me as she brought her hand to my chest, splaying her fingers over my heart. She gulped, her voice barely a whisper. “I still hate you.”

My heart thumped as I caressed her body, tracing the contours of her breasts with my fingertips. Nuzzling into her neck, I whispered, “then show me what you're made of, little warrior.”

She let out a gentle moan as I pinned her against the wall. A bold smile spread across my lips, and I drank in the sight of her. Her tongue darted over her lips hungrily, and the desire to be close to her was uncontrollable. I wanted to lose myself in her, even if it was just this once. Because I wasn't turning her. I was getting her out of her, even I died trying, and she could despise for me it, but at least she would be safe from this castle, Salenia, and from me.

My hand slowly wrapped around her slender neck, my fingers gently caressing her soft skin as her pulse raced against my palm. I brought my lips to hers, my stomach exploding with butterflies as our tongues entwined. The heat of her body prickled against my cold torso, and a low, guttural groan escaped into her mouth before I could stop it.

A slow burn ignited within my core, and I felt a longing that could not be denied as our lips met. The kiss grew hungrier with each caress of my tongue, awakening a primal urge in me. I slipped my hand between her legs, her thighs falling open in response. “There’s my good girl.”

My fingers traced a path down her body, feeling wetness seeping through her panties. She grabbed my hair, the long locks slipping through her hands as she pulled it tight, a silent demand for more. Her lips nibbled at my chest before finding their way to my neck, and her breathy moans reverberating against me. A deep longing had been sated in that moment; one I had yearned for.

Being with her felt like home, and I closed my eyes, a part of me knowing I had to let her go, but another, darker side, not wanting to.
