“You sound just like my parents.”

“Your parents are right, even though I know you don’t want to hear that.” I pull into her drive and put the truck into park.

She takes off her seatbelt and turns her upper body until she’s looking at me directly. Her shirt rides up her stomach, showing just a sliver of soft skin. I don’t have control of my eyes, which fall to her narrow waist. “You checking me out, Miller?” She smirks.

I scoff. “Shut up and get out of my truck.”

She wets her lips as her eyes slowly move down my face and chest.

“You’re seventeen years old and I’m twenty-seven. If I’m even caught with you right now, I’ll go to jail for you being drunk. So go inside so you can be your parents’ problem.”

She nods and opens the door. Before slipping out, she looks over her shoulder at me. “I’ll be eighteen next month.”

“I have a fiancé, remember?”

She giggles. “Oh yeah.” She climbs out. “Too bad,” she says, shrugging and slamming the door.

I sit behind the wheel, watching as she walks to the front door of her house. I stay put until she slips inside.

On my way home that night, I couldn’t get her off my mind. For years, I’ve thought about that too-tight tank top, those jeans she wore like a second skin, and the way her blue eyes cut right through me. Just thinking of that night has my heart pounding.

I shake my head. “Can’t do it,” I tell my sister, knowing that if I have to be around Riley every day, I’ll end up doing something I’ll regret. She was jail bait back then, but today, no laws are stopping me.

Evie sticks out her bottom lip in a pout. “Please, Travis. She’s my best friend, and she’s in a bad way. She really needs this. And it’ll help you, too!”

I shake my head again.

“Please, please, please?” She gives me about a hundred more before I finally yell.

“Fine!”

She giggles and claps her hands like a fucking child. “Thank you, thank you, thank you.” She rushes around the bar and hugs me.

All the old men lining the bar are laughing and shaking their heads. I grind my teeth until a bout of pain surges through my jaw. I gently push her away. “You owe me.” I point my index finger at her.

She smiles and shows me her palms. “When should I send her in?”

“Tomorrow. Noon.”

“You won’t regret this,” she says, rushing out the door.

I grab the beer she left and pour it out as I drink deeply from my bottle, finishing it off.

“Sisters… gotta love ’em,” Jack says, a big smile on his face.

I snort. “Something like that.”

“Hey, at least we’ll have a good-looking bartender for a change,” Tom says, finishing off his beer and pushing it toward the edge for another.

“What are you saying, Tom? I’m not good-looking enough for you?” I replace his beer with a smirk.

He laughs. “No, your legs are a little too furry for my taste.”

The guys roar in laughter.

I smile and wink at him. “I’ll shave ’em if you’ll start tipping.”

He laughs, nearly spitting out his beer. “I’ll tip ya just to keep you from flirting with me,” he jokes, but he pushes two bucks my way.
