“Too bad I didn’t know this was here.” She continued to tremble. “You might never have found me.”
“I would have found you.” I reached for an old pile of wood, and the matches that were on the fireplace mantel. “I’ll light a fire. That should help warm you.”
I set the wood in the hearth, and lit a match. It took a few tries to get it going, but once it did, it didn’t take long for it to throw off some heat. I removed my jacket and my damp shirt, laying it out by the fire.
When I turned, I found her standing behind me, gaping at my bare chest.
“Come here.” I extended my hand, inviting her closer to the fire. “Stand here.”
I looked around the room, spying the clean blankets in the corner that we left in here in case of emergencies. Anthony took pride in cleaning and restocking the stables on a weekly basis, even if keeping this room tidy wasn’t always a priority. Today, I was glad he was so meticulous at his job.
I spread the blankets out in front of the fire, and tossed a few of the pillows from the couch in the corner. I removed my wet shoes and socks, feeling better that my feet weren’t wet.
I caught Emmie stealing an occasional glance at me as she tried to warm up. Her teeth chattered and her lips were a pale shade of blue. I tugged on the sleeve of her drenched hoodie.
“Take your clothes off.”
“What?”
“It’s too cold to leave these wet clothes on.” I raised her sweatshirt over her head. “You’ll feel better.”
“It’s too cold to take them off.” Even though she protested, she lifted her arms up and let me take off her sweatshirt. “Jude.” She stepped closer to me, trying to get warm. “I’m cold.”
“I’m trying to help you.” I tugged her tank top over her head and hurled it on the pile of growing clothes.
“By getting me naked?”
“It’s going to help. Trust me.” I wrapped my arms around her, holding her tight against my chest. When I rubbed my hands along her smooth sides, she rested her head on my shoulder. Her skin was chilly, but somehow she made me hot.
I tilted her chin up and lowered my gaze to her mouth. Once our lips fastened, I couldn’t stop. Kissing her with wild abandonment, I bit and sucked her bottom lip. The crackling of the fireplace and the pounding of the rain around us mixed with the sound of our heavy breaths. I unhooked her bra, slipping it from her as I kissed her neck, making my way to her breasts. Cupping one in my hand, I took her nipple between my teeth, tugging and then blowing on it. She shivered in my arms.
I lowered her to the floor, placing her in the center of the blankets. The blaze of the fire illuminated the room as the warmth coming from inside the hearth poured over us. I took off her purple Converse sneakers and matching socks. She tried to pull away when I traced my finger along the arch of her foot.
“That tickles.” She giggled as I continued to run my finger along her foot. “Stop!”
“You’ve never done that for me before.”
“What?”
“Laughed.”
“I haven’t?”
“I like it.” I moved beside her, lowering her to the blankets as I kissed her. I swirled my finger around her aroused nipple as I moved close to her ear.
When she placed her palm on my cheek and gently ran her fingertips across my stubble, I nearly lost it. Why did she affect me like this? Why did her caress feel like she was the only woman who ever touched me this way? Who ever really saw me? That was an absurd notion, because she was far too innocent to see the real me.
As I kissed behind her ear, I drew my finger lower until I reached the button of her jeans. My cock strained against my pants as I unbuttoned hers and then unzipped them.
“I want you to do something else for me.” I shoved my hand inside her panties. “I want you to let me fuck you.”
