“Don’t try and run now,” Theon said.

Had I been that obvious? I didn’t think I even moved. I swallowed and nodded. Foxyn released me.

“That mouth of yours is trouble,” Leyton pointed out.

Was that good or bad? Either way, I shut my mouth for the remainder of the drive. An hour passed, and my stomach knotted. I rubbed at it, trying not to show how nervous I was starting to feel. I pressed down on my knee to keep my foot from bouncing and feigned relaxation the best I could.

There wasn’t another car in sight, and I chewed on my lip till I tasted my blood’s coppery tang. It barely registered in my head until a rough thumb pried my lips from between my teeth.

“Don’t ruin your lips,” Theon said. He stared at them as if he was fixating.

My heart fluttered. I opened my mouth only for Leyton to turn the car off.

“Get out,” Leyton ordered.

The guys slipped free of the car, and I followed. Either I’d leave on my own, or they’d end up dragging me out. As hot as the second option was, I needed to know exactly what I’d just willingly put myself into.

Desert greeted me as I looked around. The sun was setting, and already the cool air was picking up with the loss of the Arizona sun. It wasn’t freezing, but still, I wished I’d grabbed something more than just a t-shirt. Who knew what the hell we were doing out in the middle of nowhere?

There were no cars or signs of life anywhere. Maybe once upon a time, someone lived here. Two shacks looked one dust storm away from becoming a pile of wood. A few barrels might have been blue at some point but were now mostly brown. Cacti, taller than the guys, were scattered everywhere. The air was dry as hell, but that was nothing new when it came to Arizona.

“Why are we out here?” I gave in to curiosity as my brain could only come up with one answer.

“What do you think we’re doing here?” Leyton asked.

“You’re going to kill me, but before then, force me to dig my own grave.”

I looked around. The road was a pretty decent distance away from where we were parked. Not far enough for a clean kill but not a big deal either. The road was practically deserted since the new highway was built.

“I wouldn’t suggest it out here. Sand is soft, but it moves. More likely that a body will be found. Not to mention Arizona is known for its hard as fuck ground, so I’d be digging for hours. Doubt I’d be able to make it deep enough.”

Silence wrapped around me, and I stopped analyzing the desert to look at the guys. They stared at me as if I’d grown a second head.

I shrugged. “Or something.”

Leyton shook his head. “We’re not going to brush past that.” He stepped closer to me, and I was forced to tilt my head back just a little to meet his dark eyes. The brown irises were so deep they were nearly black.

“If you thought we were going to kill you, why did you come willingly?”

Because I want you so bad, I’m willing to do anything. Even dig my own grave.

I shrugged instead of spilling out my pure obsession with them. I knew how it sounded. However, until I had them hooked on me just as much as I was on them, I wasn’t risking shit.

Leyton squinted at me as if he could see through the bullshit deep into my soul. Sweat beaded at the nape of my neck, and I fought not to swipe at it as it rolled down my back.

“Won’t have you dig your own grave this time.”

“There will be a next time?” I groaned the moment the thought left me. It wasn’t supposed to be said out loud.

Theon laughed. “He’s treating this like a date.”

“Laureati, I knew you had issues, but you’re fucked in the head, aren’t you?” Foxyn joked.

In more ways than one. I kept my gaze glued on Leyton; he was the only one not laughing. He watched me intently. It felt like I was under a microscope. I didn’t dare even breathe too fast.

“We’re going to play a game,” Leyton said.

“Okay.”
