Raine: Trust me, I know.

Glory: Emma, are you ignoring us?

Emma: I thought this chat was sent to me by mistake.

Emma came to us through New Hope House a couple of years ago. She had been in a bad situation but got her life back, thanks to Sofia. She has her apartment and a job working for the local library. She's still stand-offish and is most comfortable keeping to herself. The club and the women have taken her under their wing. Leave it to Glory to pull her out of her shell, though.

Glory: Seriously? You better have your ass ready by the time Victor pulls up.

Lelani: This is Austin. My woman is busy.

Glory: Busy? Yeah, we all know what that means. Lelani, your man is a party pooper.

I snort when Glory's following text comes through.

Glory:Alba, don't think you can escape girl's night. Tell that man of yours to let you up for some air. You can work on baby number four later.

A minute later, Alba replies.

Alba:Stooopp!

Glory:Victor is playing chauffeur tonight.

Shaking my head, I toss my phone on the bed, walk over to the dresser, and pull out a pair of cotton sleep shorts, a baggy tee, and my favorite pair of fuzzy thigh-high socks.

I'm not at all surprised Glory called a girls’ night. After what happened yesterday, we could all use the distraction. To be honest, I've been freaking the hell out. The guys have been pretty tight-lipped, but, judging by their demeanor, some shit is about to hit the fan.

Victor picking the girls up and bringing them here was no doubt arranged by Demetri and Jake. The men won't be taking any chances regarding the safety of their women and family. Even Blake has been more alert since last night. Whenever I turn around, he's there, ensuring I'm good. Once Blake left my room, I had trouble sleeping. When I got up to get something to drink from the kitchen, he and Grey were sitting at the table talking in hushed tones, which ceased when I entered the room. Earlier, I overheard Blake on the phone with Jake telling him Grey was walking the perimeter outside, which they've done repeatedly throughout the day. And tonight, Jake made Raine agree to take one of Demetri's men along on her date, once he assured her he'd stay out of sight. All the extra activities and added security have me hyper-aware of my surroundings, but I know the Kings will take all measures to keep everyone safe.

Forty minutes later, I'm lounging on the sofa with my computer resting on my lap when the clubhouse door opens, and Glory walks in with Victor trailing behind. Behind them are Bella, Alba, Emerson, Mila, Sofia, Leah, Emma, and Lisa. I set my laptop on the table and jump up from the couch. "Hey!"

"Hey yourself," Glory greets back. "And I'm digging the hair, Ember."

I run my fingers through my rose-gold locks. My hair is not entirely bright pink but more blonde with a pink tint. "Thanks." I chuckle when I notice Glory's top readsI need a cocktail. Hold the tail."Nice shirt." Glory has a thing for dirty humor.

Behind Glory, Victor mumbles under his breath—no doubt giving her shit. Glory spins on her heels with her hand on her hip. "Hey. This is a girls’ night. No boys allowed."

"Retract the claws," Victor grunts, then quickly makes himself scarce, like Grey and Blake did as soon as they got word girls’ night was about to commence.

Over the next hour, we play catch-up on what everyone has been up to since Glory went out of the country with Demetri. Alba and Leah start talking about the bookstore, and they make sure not to skip over the part with me and the dipshit at the bank.

"So, Emma." Alba picks up her glass of wine. "How are things down at the library?"

Emma frowns. "Things are okay. However, it looks like I’ll have to find a part-time job. They cut my hours again, and it's looking more and more like the rumors of the library closing their door may be true."

"Oh, Emma." Sofia jumps in. "I'm so sorry. I know how much you love working there. But I'll help you in any way I can."

Emma smiles. "Thanks, Sofia."

"Actually." Leah perks up. "Alba and I were talking and wanted to ask you something."

"Yeah?" Emma asks. "What is it?"

"Well, Alba and I are opening a bookstore."

Emma nods. "Of course. I'm so excited for you two. I can't wait to see it."

Leah continues, "We're so happy you feel that way, because Alba and I want to offer you a job. Full time, of course. If you like it there and things work out, we'd also love your help managing the place."
