I pull his face down to mine. “Every day I feel so lucky that fate brought us back together.” I kiss his lips, practically inhaling him. Pulling away, I whisper, “Sorry.”

“Don’t ever apologize for what you’re feeling.”

“Well don’t you two look so precious.”

Hank’s body turns to stone at the sound of Tracey’s voice. We turn to face her and she looks around.

“Where’s the boy? I want to see him.”

“Bitch, you signed away your parental rights.” He moves toward her so fast, I have to scramble to get between them. “Get out of my way, Brooke,” he whispers harshly.

I push him back, and he reluctantly goes. “This is what she wants. She wants you to react. Please, let’s just go.”

Hank nods and leads me to the SUV. We climb in, ignoring whatever it is she’s saying as we take off toward what ends up being his parents’ place. He pulls into the driveway and turns to me. “Thank you, baby. I was going to throttle her.” He shakes his head. “Not really, but damn, I hate to even think that she has a chance to get any sort of custody of him.”

Reaching over, I grab his hand. “That’s our boy, and no one is going to take him from us.” My words surprise us both, but I mean it. Whatever was blocking me before has somehow dislodged itself, but that woman walked away and signed away her rights. She shouldn’t get to change her mind.

Especially since I don’t think her reasons are anything more than to be a pain in our asses. She was probably contacted by Austin, brought here to cause a problem.

With quick hands, Hank unbuckles me, plucks me from my seat, and kisses my lips with a hunger that has my panties melting. Pulling back, he shakes his head. “I love you so much, Brooke.”

“And I love you.” I hug him to me and kiss his temple. “I love him too, you know. I-I just can’t say it to him yet.”

“You’ll say it when you’re ready. Now let’s go inside. I need to tell Dad what happened.”

Hank opens the door and carefully helps me out and then I step back as he gets out. Hand in hand, we make our way inside.

Chapter Twenty-Two

Hank

I kiss Brooke’s bare shoulder and smile when she makes a sound like a cat purring. She rolls to her stomach, her blonde hair covers her face, and the sheet slips down her body. Fuck, she’s a goddamn goddess. Her body has always been top-notch. Pregnant, she’s on a whole other level.

Standing up, I grab my cutoff sweats and slip them on. On silent feet, I move through the house, checking the windows and doors. My folks kept Tripp tonight just to give Brooke and me a night alone. Dad would never let anyone near my boy. I know my kid is safe there.

In the kitchen, I grab a cold one out of the refrigerator. The bottle hisses as I twist the cap off and carry it to the breakfast bar and sit. Putting it to my lips, I take a deep pull from the bottle. Guilt, shame, and anger swirl through me.

No, I can’t go there. This whole thing is no one’s fault but Austin and Tracey’s, but damn, can’t they fucking disappear. The more I think about it, I know Tracey isn’treallyafter Tripp. She just wants me to think she is and everything she does is to bea pain in my ass.

It kills me that it brings up bad memories for Brooke to see the other woman. The fucking bitch drugged me. There was no fucking way that I would’ve touched her. Drunk or not, I’d never hurt my girl like that.

Every time I think about that night, I remember getting to the clubhouse and sitting down at the bar drinking a beer. Then nothing until I woke and found Tracey in bed with me and Brooke standing in the doorway.

I slam the entire beer down and then scrub my hands over my face. Resting my elbows on the counter, I hang my head. Freezing, I feel two arms wrap around me from behind. Soft lips touch my back and I close my eyes.

“Why are you out here?” Brooke asks quietly. She moves around to stand next to me. “What did you and your dad talk about earlier?”

“I have a meeting with the club lawyer tomorrow. I want to make sure that we have nothing to worry about.” I turn toward her and pull her until she’s between my legs. “Tripp doesn’t know anything about her. She signed her rights away and disappeared. Maybe it’s time I tell him about her. He’s only four, but I want him prepared just in case.”

She wraps her arms around my neck. “Let’s get married. I can adopt Tripp, and then she can’t touch him at all.”

I’m shocked, but thrilled she’d even want to do that, and as much as I want to say yes, I don’t. “Baby, that means so much to me, but I can’t let you do that. Plus, it’s not fair of me to ask you to do something like that.”

Brooke’s silent for a moment but then she leans back to hold my gaze. “I want this, me, you, and that sweet boy of yours. Regardless of how we got here, we’re a family.” She shakes her head. “There is so much crap swirling around us right now, but this feels right. We belong together.”

I pull her to me, taking her lips in a fierce kiss. In seconds, I lift her and set her down on the breakfast bar. Besides my T-shirt that she’s wearing, she’s completely naked. From this spot, I have unfettered access to her beautifully wet pussy.

“Feet on the counter.” My voice is hoarse as I speak. In the moonlight, it’s not lost on me that she’s glistening as she does as I ask.
