She yelled out a few choice words at Alden when he simply ducked and draped her over his shoulder. “Shut up,” he muttered at her and slapped her ass when she didn’t settle down. Pinning Brandon with a hard look, he asked, “Where’re our rooms?”

Brandon pointed up the stairs. “First four doors on the left.”

We watched Alden walk up the stairs as Zinnia struggled against him.

“Didn’t realize there were going to be five of you, Kell,” he said, his eyes finally dragging away from the show and settling on us. “I only have the four rooms. Zinnia can stay with her boyfriend, though.”

I burst out laughing, shaking my head when he shot me a questioning look. It wasn’t worth explaining to Brandon the dynamics of our…situation. We were only going to be here for one day. We needed information and Brandon had it.

“Where’s the rest of your team?” Keller asked.

“Last minute orders,” Brandon told us. “They won’t make it back before you go. Only reason I’m here is because I knew you’d be coming.”

Brandon worked for the Agency. The same agency as Zinnia, so it wasn’t surprising they knew each other. There were thousands of CIA Agents, but field work was specialized and had a lot fewer agents, so we’d worked with Brandon and his team a few times in the past.

Word on the street was he had information on both Roj and SSG Harris.

“Go get settled,” he said, “I’ll pick up some take out for dinner.”

We went our separate ways, each of us heading to a room. Alden’s door was shut and I wished I could be a fly on the wall for the conversation that was surely happening inside.

Instead, I dropped both my and Zinnia’s bags in my room. I laid down on the bed, staring up at the ceiling. Keller was certain that Brandon was going to be able to help us. If he wasn’t, we wouldn’t have detoured here.

I wondered how long it was going to take us to complete this mission. I wasn’t in a hurry to finish, because that would mean Zinnia would go back to D.C. and we’d be stuck doing the same old thing day in and day out.

Confusion filtered through my mind at that idea. The reason I’d become a Green Beret was because wedidn’tdo the same thing every day. We lived an action-packed, danger filled lifestyle and I fucking loved it. At least, I had. I wasn’t sure when that had changed. When this restless feeling had crept in.

Shoving to my feet, I went downstairs in search of the others. Being alone was proving to be too much of a downer for me. I didn’t do depressing thoughts, so it was best to fill my time with talking to my team.

CHAPTER10

Zinnia

Alden kicked the door shut behind us, then dropped me onto my feet. I punched him as hard as I could in the chest. He grunted and glowered at me. He was lucky I hadn’t clocked him in the face for the stunt he’d just pulled.

“What the hell is wrong with you?” I snarled at him. It was too late to rein my temper in. Usually it was reserved for Keller, but I was willing to make an exception this time.

“Why were you all over Brando?”

My face scrunched together in disbelief. “Brandon is my friend. We’ve known each other for years.”

Alden crossed his arms over his massive chest. The look on his face didn’t look the least bit remorseful.

“Why would you care if I hugged another man?”

“You’re ours.”

Now my brows shot up as I fumbled with how to respond to that. To understand what he meant. He had to mean their teammate, right?

“Alden… Your cousin hates me.” He looked like he was going to interrupt me so I made sure to beat him to it. “Hatesme. Torque and Rush are happy to have me around, but Torque loves anything that walks and is female and Rush hasn’t had an unhappy day in his life. So that’s not saying much. You!” I drilled my finger into his chest. It didn’t sink in at all. How could it with all those muscles in the way? “You’ve barely spoken more than five words to me in a week. Don’t you tell me bullshit like, ‘I’m yours’. I’m on this team even though none of you are really willing to have me-”

My breath caught when his arm snaked out and he yanked me against the hard planes of his body. I smacked into him with such force the breath was expelled from my lungs. My eyes widened as he glared down at me and a small squeak escaped as his lips lowered.

His firm demanding lips made a firestorm of heat flare over my body. His tongue stroking against mine, caused my blood to boil. He poured everything into the kiss and made my knees weak. He was the one controlling my body now. It was his to do with as he pleased.

The moan slipped out, unbidden, but when he heard it he gathered me closer to him. My breasts were smashed against him, but my nipples hardened.

“If you want to rub against someone, Mouse, then you can brush against me all you want,” he rumbled against my mouth.
