“Gertrude?”

I shrugged. “It fit.”

“How could that possibly fit-” He shook his head. “You know what? Nevermind.” He picked up an AR and handed it to me. “You’ll want more than…Gertrude for tonight.”

Taking the gun and the magazines filled with ammo, I checked the weapon over. “Do you have a sling for it?”

He grinned and handed it over. Crossing his huge arms over his chest, he leaned against the wall and watched as I set the magazines down and attached the sling to the stock of the rifle.

“What happened?”

My head snapped up to find him studying me. “What?” I tried to sound as innocent as possible.

“Don’t give me that,” he insisted. “I know my cousin better than anyone, but I’m getting to know you, too, Mouse. What happened?”

“Nothing.” Last thing I needed was the only slightly less psychotic King trying to give me advice. That was a recipe for disaster.

His dark brows shot up. He didn’t look pacified at all.

“I’m handling it.”

“Doesn’t seem like it. You won’t even look at Kell.”

“Trust me, he deserves what he gets.” I sighed. “Seriously, I’ve got it covered. I don’t need your help.”

“Okay,” he said, raising his hands up in front of his chest. “But if he steps out of line, you let me know.”

Yeah. Like I was going to be the reason the King cousins had a beef. I didn’t want to cause trouble for any of them. That would only further prove Keller right. This team was intact when I got here and I planned for it to remain that way. I was not going to be the one that drove a wedge between them.

I kissed his cheek before I took my rifle and magazines up to my room. Even though I’d slept with Rush in his bed, I had my own space in this house and I needed to make use of it. I planned to use my anger with Keller to help fuel what I needed to do tonight.

This wasn’t my first field assignment, but it’d been years since I’d gone on a raid. The excitement and nerves were jangling hard, making me jittery as the hour counted down. I paced my room, preparing myself for what we were about to walk into.

A knock on the door had me freezing in my tracks. Rush popped his head inside when I called out. “Ready to go?”

“Yeah,” I said, blowing out a breath to try to relax myself. I followed him down the stairs and met up with the others. We were all in black pants and shirts so we could blend into the darkness.

“Rush?” Keller gave him a questioning look.

“Camels are all packed and staged outside of town. We’ll have to run about a mile to get to them.”

I hadn’t realized they’d been preparing the animals while I’d been up in my room. I should have, though. These men were always a step ahead and did what needed doing without complaint. They never had idle time, they filled every minute with something.Sometimes that something is me.Next time, I’d be there to help load up. I was still learning what it meant to be a part of this team.

My eyes fell on Keller and I swore inwardly at myself when he met my gaze. He arched a brow. “Last chance.”

“For what?”

“You can stay with the camels.”

I glared at him and went out the door first. They all fell in line behind me. A bright moon lit our way. They let me lead the way to the house the boy had pointed out earlier today, but as soon as we got close, Keller grabbed me around the waist and tugged me behind him.

Figuring him out was damn near impossible and I was sure I was going to pull all my hair out trying. He acted protective of me, but every time he opened those tempting lips pure acid was released. It was always aimed at me.

“Any guards?” Alden asked, moving in front of me to stand next to his cousin.

“Doesn’t look like it.”

“Probably long gone,” Alden remarked.
