“He. Tried. To. Kill you,” Keller snarled. I sighed and wrapped my arms around him. “You’re ours and he tried to hurt you.” His tone had calmed somewhat with my touch, but he was still seething.

I pulled back and looked up at him. This was going to be a testament of his feelings for me. What I was about to ask was going to test every ounce of his resolve. “Please take him in. Do it for me?”

His green eyes narrowed on my face as he fought against anger and the need to murder the man who’d tried to kill me and do as I requested. Finally, his face lost the sharp edge and he sighed. “That’s what you want? To bring him in?”

“Yes,” I told him. “Let the CIA question him. We’ll make sure he doesn’t have any more surprises up his sleeve. Then he’ll go to prison and rot for the rest of his life.”

“Men like him have ways of escaping justice,” Keller muttered.

“Then we’ll go back and finish the job at that point,” I told him. That seemed to cheer him up.

“Fine,” he relented. “Guys tie his worthless ass up. We’re heading back to the base.”

There was another reason I wanted Roj in prison. A simple one that Keller was too angry to understand right now. It would break Roj. Not the prison itself, but the humiliation. Of being captured by the infidels, and being defeated by a woman. The spell around him, the mystique that his followers loved, all broken. Roj would be nothing more than a dried up has been. After my interrogation was over, I gave it less than a month before he hung himself. He’d do our dirty work for us and we’d never have to worry that someone would find out like they would if we killed him ourselves.

Arms wrappedaround me from behind and I leaned back into Torque’s embrace. “Fucking scared us, Kitten.”

Rush finished going through Roj’s truck and trotted over to us. I gasped in pleasure when I saw my laptop in his hand. “Fucker had it in the truck with him.” He ignored my outstretched arms and handed it over to Alden, then sandwiched me between his body and Torque’s. It was just us out here, in the middle of the desert, waiting on our ride. I took comfort in their embraces.

We’d narrowly escaped death, completed our mission, and now all we had to do was interrogate Roj and get the hell home. Having Roj in custody, there was no longer a need for stealth. Keller pulled out a satellite phone and called a chopper in to pick us up.

The ride back was quick and easy. And just like that, we were done. It felt surreal to be back at the base we started at, our mission completed.

“Ugh, first dibs on the shower,” I said, after we’d moved away from the helicopter. I grabbed my laptop from Alden—he’d insisted on carrying it for the ride—and ran for our quarters.

An hour later, I stepped into another area with my men surrounding me. We were all waiting for the current command staff here to debrief us. It took us a few hours to report everything that’d happened—minus the bit about finding Colby Harris, of course.

“Special Agent Hart.”

I glanced over at General Dupree. He’d introduced himself as soon as he’d walked in and taken over the debrief. “Yes, sir?”

“I understand you want to be a part of the team that will be interrogating Roj Badawi?”

“Yes, sir.”

“Good, I’ll keep you apprised of when that will happen. Until then, get some rest.” He stood up and watched as we did the same, the guys standing at attention. “Good work.”

With that, he left us and we sprawled back into our seats. I placed my laptop on the table and began meticulously filling out my reports. There were other laptops for the guys to use as they did the same. That was one thing you could always count on the Government for, boat loads of paperwork.

We all worked quietly and once we were finished we shuffled back to our living area and fell asleep. The mission had been fast and chaotic and we were all exhausted.

CHAPTER31

Zinnia

Three weeks passed and no one was able to tell us when we’d be able to speak to Roj. I was getting restless. I got out of bed to get dressed. It was time to get started with my day. The others were already gone, off doing whatever tasks the Army required of them. I had my own agenda for the day.

There was no telling how long we’d be stuck here, interrogating Roj, but I was looking forward to getting home and establishing a new routine. One that included my men in it. I wasn’t sure how we’d make that work yet, but I knew we would. When Keller set his mind to something he made sure it happened.

A shout drew my attention as I crossed toward the area where they were holding Roj prisoner. I paused and turned just in time to be swept up into strong arms. I’d know that hug anywhere.

“Brandon,” I gasped out with a laugh. My arms tightened around him. “What are you doing here?”

He set me back on my feet and grinned down at me. “Agency sent us over to head up the interrogation. Heard you’re joining us?”

“Us?” I peered around him and grinned when I saw the other members of his team waiting patiently for their own hugs. I rushed around Brandon and Weaver caught me up in his arms. We all knew each other from the academy and I had been sad to have missed them in Seoul. “It’s so good to see you, Weaver.”
