“Enjoying your meal, Kitten?”

I dropped my fork—I hadn’t even realized I’d picked it up—and shoved his hand off my neck. His touch was doing things between my thighs that I wasn’t prepared for. “Hands off,” I snapped at him.

He held the hand up in a placating gesture. “Sorry, I talk with my hands.”

Glaring at him, I shook my head. “That means you wave them around a lot, not that you put them on me. You’re handsy and I don’t like it.”

Okay. I did.But he didn’t need to know that.

Torque chuckled, not at all put off by my rejection. “Alright, Kitten.”

“Don’t. Call. Me that.”

He picked up his own utensil and pointed it at Alden. “Not going to get much out of that one.” He ignored my order and popped a bite into his mouth while chewing thoughtfully. “Let’s see. What do you need to know?” He scratched his blond beard. Each of the men had them.

“Alden is our munitions expert. You need a weapon or something blown up? Talk to him. I’m the mechanic,” he said, pointing his thumb at his chest.

“Torque is a nickname, I take it? Hopefully your parents aren’t that mean.”

“That’s right. Sam Hogan. Nice to meet you officially.” At least he kept his hands to himself this time. “Rush is our communications expert, and Kell…well he’s the leader.”

Torque nodded at a group of men who passed by. My mind was spinning trying to keep up with his easy chatter and everyone who was calling out friendly hellos to the men seated next to me. They seemed to be well liked by everyone around them.

Did that mean Keller and Alden just didn’t like me? I don’t know why the prospect of that made my heart sink. Steeling my resolve, I went back to eating. It didn’t matter whether any of these men liked me or not. I was here to do a job. We may have two mission statements—as Keller pointed out earlier—but my main goal was to find Colby Harris, if she was alive.

Bringing Roj in would be a bonus. Surviving out in the wilderness with these men would be a nightmare. Nothing else mattered to me other than finding the woman who’d plagued my thoughts for the last month.

If she was alive, I wasn’t sure why she would be in hiding. If she wasn’t… I didn’t want to contemplate the thought of that. I’d burn that bridge when I got there.

“...team has been together for eight years.”

I focused back on what Torque was telling me. My heart jumped when I realized that Rush had sat down with us while I’d spaced out.

“Though junior here,” he continued, pointing over at Rush—who just rolled his eyes at the nickname—has only been with us for two.”

Rush was watching me with patient, kind eyes. Between him and Torque at least I wasn’t completely hated. That would make it easier to bear the foul moods of the cousins.

Torque gave up on me responding to him. As much as I wanted to learn more about this team, I was dead on my feet. Between getting almost no sleep last night, the early wake up, and driving for five hours, I needed a nap. I wasn’t sure I was going to get it, but I’d figure it out.

Lunch passed by in a blur and before I knew it Alden was escorting me back to my barracks. “We have stuff to do today,” he told me. I opened my mouth, then shut it again when he kept going. “Stuff that doesn’t include you. You officially join the team in training tomorrow. Take the day to rest and catch up with…whatever you need to.”

He didn’t give me a chance to thank him before he turned and walked off. Shaking my head, I made my way inside. The building was quiet, all the soldiers off performing their duties for the day.

I crawled onto my bunk, pulling my laptop from my backpack and firing it up. There’d be time later to unpack. For now, I wanted to log my notes about my informant’s phone call into my file and then catch some sleep.

My eyes were drooping by the time I saved the document. Yawning, I put the laptop on the floor near my bed and shut my eyes.

CHAPTER5

Alden

Keller was lucky he was in charge, otherwise I’d have told him to fuck straight off when he’d put me in charge of Zinnia.

The only one who wouldn’t fuck her given the chance, my ass.

The first glimpse of her I’d gotten, she’d been asleep in her car. Her soft full lips had been parted and all I could think about was pressing my dick back far enough that she’d gag on it. I wondered what those sexy green eyes would look like, bright with tears as they streaked down her face as I throat fucked her.

Keller knew damn well I wasn’t unaffected by the beautiful CIA Agent. He just knew I’d be able to control myself better than the other two…hopefully.
