“I sure am,” she called out.

My lip twitched in amusement. “And the power twins went out shopping.”

Tyr’s brow lifted. “Power twins?”

I scooped the recently fried turnovers out of the pan. “You’ll learn those two are an unstoppable and dangerous duo. If they want it, they’re getting it, one way or another.”

He chuckled and shut the fridge door. “I believe it.”

Angel lifted her head suddenly, ear perked. A moment later, she was rushing for the front door, barking.

“Ah, there they are.” I could see Astrid’s Jeep rolling up the front drive through the window.

Tyr sipped his glass of water before making himself a sandwich and sitting down at the island.

Not long after, the front door flew open and Aya breezed in, her arms full of shopping bags. “We have returned with spoils of war.”

I snorted, and Tyr laughed. “What war did you two fight in this time?”

Aya’s expression grew serious. “The foretold battle… of Christmas in July craft sale.”

A beat of silence and then laughter filled the house. It only increased when Astrid’s voice carried into the house. “Angel, stop. Angel, move out of the way. Aya! They sent reinforcements.”

Astrid staggered into the house, Angel trying to trip her up. Her sundress fluttered around and clung to her curves in all the right ways at a teasingly high length at her thighs. Her red hair, pulled back in a partially braided ponytail, draped over her shoulder on one side, offering the perfect profile view of her stunning face. “I swear, she acts like it’s a crime for me to leave the house.”

“Well, clearly you abandoned her,” I teased.

Astrid rolled her eyes, making me laugh. “Carrie, are you inside?”

The woman in question poked her head around the corner. “I’m right here.”

“We chauffeured Raeni home, and she brought two friends. They wanted to go swimming.”

“Thanks for letting me know. I’ll keep an eye on them.” She flicked her gaze to me and then to Tyr. “You two best keep your shirts on, unless you want a gaggle of giggling girls following you around.”

I shook my head. “Astrid, I don’t remember you being this bad.”

She set some bags on the island. “That’s because I wasn’t. I was too busy drooling over muscled action stars and boy-band members.”

Tyr paused mid-bite of his lunch. “That is a strange array.”

Astrid shrugged. “What can I say? I’ve got an eclectic taste in men and music.”

That was the understatement of the century. “Aya, were you this bad?”

Tyr snorted. “She was worse.”

Aya gestured to him, an unapologetic look on her face.

Carrie laughed. “At least I wasn’t the only one.”

She wandered off after that. I reached blindly behind me and grabbed a sneaky little redhead trying to snag her treat before I gave permission. “I don’t think so.”

“Aw…” She pouted, those temptingly kissable lips drawing my gaze. “But those look like the surprise you promised. And you know I love your empanadas.”

That was definitely why I picked this treat over mozzarella sticks. She could live off the two of them for the rest of her life.

I held Astrid close against my side, enjoying the feel of her body molding against mine. “So you did get my texts.”
