“Wake up, kitten,” he coos.

“Crap. I’m sorry I didn’t mean to fall asleep on you.” My words come out groggy.

“It’s okay. I do have some things to do now though. I’ll drop you at home on my way,” he says, my clothes in his hands.

I sit up and stretch, fully nude, not caring the least bit about him seeing my body. After both of our sexual interludes, we’re well past that.

He helps me dress with little brushes and touches mixed in keeping our connection from earlier that much longer. Once I’m dressed, he pulls me in close and rests his head on my head just holding me for a bit.

It’s nice to just be held without any expectations for more.

“We need to get going or I’ll be late for my appointment.” He grabs his key and takes my hand in his, leading the way out to his car in the carport.

The ride to my apartment is peaceful with classical music playing softly through the speakers of his sports car.

Pulling up outside my building, he stops and gets out to open my door. I step out and he kisses me sweetly, his arms wrapped around my lower back just above the curve of my ass.

“Thank you for a wonderful afternoon,” I say.

“It wastrulymy pleasure,” he says. He stays there, making sure I get into the building all right and out of his sight. The smile on my face stays there until what feels like Monday when my world tilts on its axis.

9 Invading Spaces

Istep off the elevator on my floor at work Monday morning and make my way to my desk outside Mr. Neal’s office. I’m surprised to find him already there on a phone call. It rattles my nerves to not have the next ten minutes or so to get ready for his arrival. So, I rush to go over today’s schedule, and just as my computer is done booting up, he calls me into his office.

“Elizabeth!” His angry shout is loud enough to make it through his closed door.

Crap. Now what?

Quickly shoving my purse into the bottom drawer of my desk, I take my phone out and set it down on my desk. I scurry into his office and leave the door open a crack behind me.

“I need the spec on the Lantern project.” Mr. Neal doesn’t even look up from typing on his computer.

I stand there waiting for more orders. When I don’t move quickly, he looks up at me and rips me a new one.

“Get moving! Why are you still standing here like an idiot?” His voice booms at me causing me to jump and scamper away to fulfill his request.

Once I’m out of earshot, I grumble under my breath, “Demanding asshole.” Snagging my phone off my desk, I go over to the Lantern project’s secretary and ask her for the specs on it.

“Yeah, girl, hold on, let me pull them up and print them out,” she offers with a smile.

“Thanks, you’re a lifesaver! Mr. Neal just reamed me. I don’t know what’s gotten into him today, but he was here before I was.” I huff.

“Yikes!” She clicks something on her computer. “All set. You can get them on your way back.”

“Thanks again!” I say as I turn and walk away.

I power walk to the printer and find the papers I need warm and waiting. A text comes in on my phone clenched in my hand and I smile when I see it’s from Alaric.

:Alaric:I hope you had a wonderful weekend. If you’re free would you like to have dinner with me tonight?

:Elle:I’d love that.

:Alaric:Can you be ready by six?

That's going to make things tight since I don’t get off until five-thirty. But I’m pretty sure I can swing it.

:Elle:That will work if you can pick me up from work.
