The tech turns the sound off, and starts taking measurements of the bean-shaped area. It’s all fascinating, and I’m already in love with the little peanut. I lift Heather’s hand, and give her knuckles a lingering kiss with my eyes riveted to the screen.

“Okay, all done. It looks like from the measurements you’re eleven weeks and two days,” the tech says.

Wow. That’s over a fourth of the way there. We have a lot to do in the next twenty-nine weeks. It’s also farther along than I originally thought.

“Everything looks okay, though?” I ask, wanting to be reassured.

“Yep, nothing concerning,” the tech smiles at us and rips off a ream of pictures, handing them to Heather. She grabs a towel and gives it to Heather for her to wipe the gel off her stomach before opening the door, letting a stream of bright light into the darkened space.

“Take your time, you can set up your next appointment with the front desk on your way out,” she says, then leaves, letting us have the room.

“Do you want one?” Heather asks me.

I look back to see her holding up the pictures.

“Of course,” I say, helping her up from the table, then bringing her in close to hug and kiss her. She’s amazing.

With the pictures in my hand, we walk out to her car, and I get in the driver's seat after helping her in. I know she doesn’t need it. That's not what opening doors for her is about. It’s about the respect I have for her and what she deserves. Of course, she’s more than capable but after the life she’s lived, she will get no less from me. Orin and Gemini feel the same, so we all make it a point to do little things like this for her.

“You hungry, mama?” I ask, knowing the answer before the words are out of my mouth. This baby has given her a ferocious appetite.

“Always,” she says, smiling, knowing I know the answer.

“What does the baby feel like?” I ask, flicking my turn signal on to pull out of the parking lot onto the road.

“Something spicy,” she says, rubbing her palm over her growing baby bump.My God, I didn’t know she could be even more beautiful than when I first saw her. But every day her beauty grows and hits me so hard in my chest, that I can’t imagine a life without her or Zander in it anymore.

“You got it, my baby and mama,” I say, reaching over, and rubbing her stomach lovingly.

I get her food, and she eats with gusto on the way back to her place. I take her home, seeing her inside with Gemini, then I leave to take care of some work stuff. After all that, I fall into bed, letting my exhaustion consume me.

ItuckZanderintobed for the night. His little eyes are already closed as his head hits the pillow. In my best impression of a ninja, I back out of his bedroom. I know that Jonas and the others don’t like that I’m on my own, Zander not included, since he’s a child. But this is something I need to do for myself. If I let them have their way, they’d have both of us locked up far away from Steven and his unpredictable behavior. Since he’s currently the one behind bars, it helps my case.

Admittedly, him shooting Jaz was something I never thought he was capable of. Doing that to me? Yes.

I still have to stand on my own. Having always lived with my parents or my soon-to-be ex-husband, I need to know that I can live and make it on my own merits.

I make it to the door and out, leaving it cracked just a bit. Exactly how Zander likes it.

“He go down easy?” Jonas whispers as he comes down the short hallway toward me.

“Yep, he was out before I even got him fully into bed.” I head toward him. Jonas’ blonde hair reminds me of a regal lion's mane. I can’t resist touching it any time he’s near me. His hazel eyes have a look of playful mischief in them that makes me weak in the knees.

Reaching up, I thread my fingers into his hair, and he brings his mouth down to mine. The kiss we share is sweet and filled with tenderness. Just like the man himself.

“Gemini is here. You ready to go?” Jonas pulls back slightly, his lips still close enough that they brush mine.

“Yeah, let me just grab my jacket really quick.” I go to move around him, but he pins me to him.

“I already got it. It’s in the living room.” I swear this man thinks of everything. The things he doesn’t think of, the other two do. I’ve never felt more taken care of or pampered in my life. Certainly not from Steven, but even when I lived at home. Sure, my parents fed and clothed me, but they had their own lives.

I learned as I got older not to rely on them for affection. That’s probably what lead to me to finding and marrying Steven. He showered me with attention at first.

Jonas keeps one of my hands in his, and gives a gentle tug to follow him down the hall to the living room.
