“I have an idea. A venue that I think might be perfect for you. We can visit it right now.”

Nora lights up. “Yeah? I’d love that.” We collectively walk to the exit, when I find Cassie next to me again.

“Will you be joining us, Mr. Abbot?” Her tone is challenging.

Fuck, I shouldn’t. I’ve got a call in thirty minutes. But without thought, I reply, “If I’m paying for it, I need to know it’s what she wants.”

She grins. “Very well.” Then she tells me where we are heading.

Stepping outside, Nora turns and asks, “Theo, can we just take your car? I don’t want Cassie to have to get us another Uber.”

Fuck me.

I don’t want to growl at my sister, so I nod and walk to my car. I’ll need to text Meredith to tell her to push my next call.

Somehow I survive the eight-minute drive, Cassie making small talk with Nora; they are both in the back. Mateo in the passenger’s seat beside me.

A few times, I glance into the rearview mirror and find Cassie staring back at me. Her smile catches me off guard. Then her gaze ensnares me. Fuck.

It's hard to look away.

We arrive at the Indianapolis Public Library and Nora isn’t even out of the car before she’s repeating yes over and over again.

Mateo and Cassie laugh, and I can’t help but wonder how she got it so right and why no one else even thought about this place.

“Cassie, oh my gosh, the library is perfect. It never crossed my mind,” Nora gushes as we climb the stairs to the entrance.

“You were talking about your love of reading on the way over here, and I had a thought. But it didn’t settle until I realized INDUSTRY wasn’t you and why.”

“Well, clearly you know me better than I know myself.” Nora chuckles.

Cassie does the same but responds with, “It’s my job.” I fight back an eye roll.

For the next fifteen minutes, Cassie walks us through the spaces available for a ceremony. Nora decides that this is the spot, so they start chatting with an event coordinator and find that they have an opening in six months, which is more in line with the original timeline Nora was hoping for, which was a fall wedding.

The satisfied look Cassie gives me and the excitement Nora has over finding the right venue for their wedding are my cue to move on with my day. I take my leave after confirming that whatever the cost, I approve.

I need to get way from this wedding planner. She’s too much for me to handle. Hopefully, I won’t have to see her again anytime soon.

After too much time in the presence of that sweet as sin voice, perfectly created body, and sparking blue eyes, not to mention that damn smile, I need a fucking break.

Chapter 5

OUTLANDISH THEORIES

CASSIE

Scrollingthrough HEA’s Instagram page on my computer, I make some notes for Nellie, one of our interns, when she’ll post the photos we have from the wedding we did this past weekend.

We have a very active Instagram page as well as a blog. And of course Pinterest. When it comes to events, especially weddings, the more visual the better.

I kick off my glossy pink heels, which I love, but with a standing desk, I need a minute or two of comfort. I’ve got more than an hour of downtime on my calendar, so I relish in the quiet.

My phone dings with a text. I look and see it’s Cash. He’s been in town for two weeks and I’ve seen him a couple of times. It’s been wonderful reconnecting with my little brother after years of thousands of miles between us.

His text confirms he’s coming over for dinner tonight and I smile at the thought of having him around more often now.

While my mind is distracted, I reply to a text Alan sent me yesterday about getting together soon. I was so busy yesterday, I didn’t have a chance to message him back. I feel bad. I haven’t seen him in nearly two weeks. I really like the guy, but he doesn’t seem to be bothered when we don’t get to connect. And honestly, I want someone to make that a priority. But I guess, what does that say about me if I’m not doing the same for him?
