Chapter Twenty-Eight

Now
“You can’t be serious?” I asked, thinking back on her.
Adrian snatched the phone out of Cade’s grasp. “A video is worth a thousand words. Look for yourself."
I grabbed it out of his hand, blown away by what was happening. There before my very own eyes was footage of Hayley running through a parking lot and then maybe thirty seconds later, the bomb exploded.
“Oh my God,” I breathed out, stunned and speechless.
“Yeah,” Adrian bit. “My thoughts exactly.”
Shifting my eyes over to his, I reasoned, “There’s got to be a logical explanation for this. Hayley wouldn’t be stalking me.”
“Then explain the surveillance, Paige.”
“I don’t know.” I frantically shook my head. “But there’s got to be a better explanation than what you’re implying.”
“I’m not implying shit!” he roared. “She’s on actual footage. That’s all the evidence I need.”
Cade intervened, “Fuck you, man! She’s right! Hayley wouldn’t do this!”
Adrian got right in his face. “Then explain why she’s there?”
“Stop!” I shouted with my hands out in front of me, feeling like this was deja vu all over again. “We’re not getting anywhere with you two fighting! Calm your asses down! Now!”
Adrian cocked his head at him, not surrendering. “Stay out of this, Cherry.”
Cade scoffed in disgust. “I wonder why you call her cherry, asshole?”
“Cade!” I reprimanded. “Stop!”
He shoved Adrian hard. “Fuck him! You want a piece of me.” In one determined stride back, he held his arms out to his sides. “I’m standing right here! It’s been a long time coming for stealing what was mine!”
“Can’t steal something that was never yours to begin with, little brother.”
“You’re nothing but a selfish prick! You know that, right?”
“That’s enough!” I ordered through a clenched jaw.
Cade’s venomous glare shot over to me. “I can’t believe you gave him your cherry.”
My heart burst.
“Why the fuck would you want to be another one of his whores?”
Adrian’s fist collided with Cade’s cheek before he got the last word out. His head whooshed back, taking half of his body with him.
