“We?”

“It looks like your services are needed.”

“Mine? What about Arman?”

“Armando is three hours away. We’re closer.”

“What is it? What happened?”

“I don’t know the details. I just know that one of our men had anaccidentand it’s bad.” Alessandro cast me a warning glance. “How familiar are you with reattaching limbs?”

My stomach dropped. “What?”

“Do you know how to reattach limbs?”

“I—maybe. I’ve assisted on one or two cases but there are a lot of factors involved.”

“Okay. We’re heading to our clinic so you should have everything you need but I want you to be prepared. This isn’t going to be pretty.”

“What about my father?”

“Luca said that he will take the two of them to the new facility when we get to the clinic.”

I nodded, deep in thought and worried about what I would soon be thrown into. I could tell it wasn’t something that was commonplace. Even Alessandro seemed flustered and that made me nervous.

We pulled up to the clinic and there were already a few other vehicles parked out front. Several men I recognized from around the Venturi compound were huddled close together with a few scattered about, talking seriously among themselves.

We parked and I jumped out of the car before Alessandro could waste time coming around to open my door.

Luca met us in the parking lot. “Ciao.”

“Ciao. How is he?”

Luca shook his head. “You guys should get inside.” He turned to look at me with a strained smile. “I’ll make sure that he gets settled.”

“Thank you.” I gently squeezed his hand in thanks before he hurried to the car.

We sprinted up to the front of the clinic and passed the groups of men quietly talking among themselves.

“They really did a number on him.”

“Let’s just hope that this new doctor knows what she’s doing.”

We hurried into the clinic where Alessandro’s friend Enzo stood waiting. “He’s in the back. Teo’s with him.”

I could barely keep up with Alessandro as we ran through the corridor to the back room that was set up as a high-end surgical suite. It was definitely a step above the hospital where I had worked.

"Shit, Santino," Alessandro muttered as he hurried over to the surgery table.

I’d seen blood all day long at my job but that was different than the brutality that man had suffered. To suffer losing a limb is bad enough, to be awake with no anesthesia was far worse.

“Where’s the arm?” I asked as I quickly began washing up for surgery and a woman in nursing scrubs held a surgical gown out for me to slip my arms into.

“We put it on ice. Along with the fingers.”

“Fingers?” I looked at the nurse in shock as she helped me with my mask, cap, and gloves.

“They cut off three of his fingers before moving to his arm.”
