There’s no way I could have taken on the mob boss and his goon on my own, but thanks to Katya, I only had to handle her father. Even then, she led him right to me. I hate that she put herself at risk, again, might I add, but she wouldn’t be the woman I fell in love with if she didn’t fight tooth and nail to survive.

“Are you going to yell at me?” Katya asks.

I look over at her once more, those golden eyes finally resting on mine instead of out the window.

“No, baby. I should have known better than to tell you what to do.”

My girl smiles at me, her hand finding mine on the center console. She weaves her fingers through mine, squeezing life back into every part of me.

We pull into the driveway of our home, and I waste no time bundling Katya up in my arms and carrying her inside.

“I can walk, you know,” she tells me, even as she snuggles further into my embrace.

“This isn’t for your benefit,” I tell her. She gives me an adorably confused look, so I clarify. “I need you this close, Katya. I need to know you’re here and we both made it out alive.”

This makes Katya pop her head up from where she was resting it. “Oh my god, do we need to go back? We just left everyone there, and–”

“We’re good, baby,” I assure her as I make my way upstairs and into the bathroom. “We were almost done, and besides, you and I took out the big Boss. They can handle the clean-up.”

“Are you sure?”

“I swear you almost look disappointed,” I say, setting my woman down. Katya shrugs, which makes me smile, despite the crazy evening we’ve had. “Would you feel better if I gave him a call? I shot him a text right after…”

“Shooting my father?” Katya finishes for me.

I nod, still unsure of her feelings about everything. Yes, she gave me permission to end that piece of shit’s life, but that doesn’t mean she’s not grieving.

“It’s okay to say it,” she whispers. “He deserved a lot worse.”

I cup my hand around the back of her neck and pull her closer, pressing a kiss to the top of her head. “You’re so strong,” I murmur, kissing her one last time before stepping back. “You go ahead and get the water going while I call Romeo. Then I’ll join you.”

Katya nods, and I pull out my phone, dialing Romeo’s number as I step out of the bathroom.

“Valentino,” he answers, slightly out of breath. “It’s over. Did you and Katya get home safe?”

“Yes, Boss. I wanted to check in. Well, Katya wanted me to check in.”

Romeo chuckles. “I knew I was going to like her.”

“So, what’s the update? Did we lose any men?”

“Thankfully, no. We had already loaded up three of the four semis when Marco shouted for Katya. Is it true she killed Raffe D’Angelo? Or is Armando making shit up?”

“It’s true,” I confirm, pride welling up in my chest. “He was the prick who assaulted her. She got her revenge.”

“Good,” Romeo grunts before changing course. “We had snipers picking off the remnants of guards as the rest of us filled up the final semi. The Colombos have no armory and no leader. It will take years to rebuild and longer to retaliate.”

“That’s what I like to hear.”

“You and me both. Now, go spend some time with your woman. I’ll be indisposed for the next twenty-four hours, but we’ll have a meeting after that.”

“Thanks, Boss,” I say with a chuckle. I’m sure Armando and Dante are spending the evening with their women as well.

Hanging up the phone, I toss it onto the kitchen table and then sprint upstairs to my Katya. The bathroom is practically a sauna, and I undress as quickly as possible, needing to see, touch, and feel everything about her.

When I pull back the curtain, I’m greeted with the sight of my precious, breathtaking woman dripping with water and surrounded by steam. She turns, holding her hand out for me. I take it, stepping inside our own little sanctuary of peace from the outside world.

“I can’t believe you showed up tonight,” I tell her as I smooth my hands over her curves.
