“The only way for all that to happen is if Linsey Duchene dies. With her gone, the girls become wards of the company. With the board in control of the girls, Margo will do whatever she wants. Even installing Alex as the face of the company.”

“Where is Linsey?” I asked, stepping away from Fury and Mr. Hill.

Rubbing the back of my neck, I looked around at all the people. Most were off in their own world, enjoying tonight’s festivities, as my mind whirled with implications. For so long, I avoided people and places like this. I never wanted the life my parents and grandfather lived, knowing all the backstabbing and incriminations could easily destroy a man or company. Yet, here I stood, back in the thick of it. Only I forgot what this life was really like. I forgot the key lesson my father and grandfather taught me.‘Money is the root of all evil. Remember that Gregory and you will go far’.

Scanning the crowd, I couldn’t find Linsey anywhere. She was going to the restroom. She should have been back by now, but wasn’t. Fear crept into my bones as I started moving deeper into the crowd. Fury hot on my heels, I heard him talking to someone one before saying, “Head for the restrooms. I’ve alerted the others. They are coming.”

Running now, I pushed past patrons, ignoring their outrage at my lack of civility. Seeing my destination up ahead, I didn’t give a fuck about decorum as I kicked open the door and walked in. Hearing women scream as they rushed past me, I searched the opulent lavatory to find nothing.

She wasn’t here.

She was gone.

“Let’s go!” Montana shouted from the entryway. “Malice has a lead on her.”

“How?”

“The earrings she wore tonight. He had a feeling that those sick fucks who took the girls were lying. We took precautions.”

Incredulously, I stared at my friend. “He low jacked my woman!”

“You are telling me you didn’t?” Montana questioned.

Ignoring the snarky bastard, I asked, “Where is she?”

“Heading for the Lincoln Tunnel. We have to go now.”

“Let’s go.”

Running for the exit, I wasn’t surprised to see a nondescript van idling. When the side door slid open, I didn’t think as I jumped in. By the time the door shut and the van was moving, I heard the driver say, “Hey Prez. I got everything you asked for. We’ll be at the rendezvous point in ten.”

“Thanks prospect,” Montana said, as he and the other brothers undressed. When Montana threw a bundle at me, I barely had time to grab it as he added. “Get changed. The bikes are ready. The second we arrive, we ride.”

I didn’t need to be told anymore.

The Soulless Sinners were on the hunt.

Linsey

When my sister died, I thought nothing would ever compare to the pain I felt.

I was wrong.

So very wrong.

The physical pain I was feeling now was instant, heart-stopping agony. A pain so sickening it was actually making me violently ill. Yet, the blows kept coming. When I saw who was behind me in the lady’s room, I thought I was in for another tongue lashing. I never thought she could be this vindictive, but what made her deception worse was who was helping her. In some way, I knew he was a part of it all. I knew the family lineage just as he did. For the longest time, we were the same. Part of a family, but not. An afterthought. While I learned to accept my position, apparently, he did not.

“Please stop, Alex,” I moaned, as he struck me again. My face was on fire. I could feel blood trickling down my cheek from where he struck me.

“Fuck you!” he sneered, before hitting me again. “Sign the papers!”

“No.”

Grabbing me by my hair, he yanked my head back. “Oh, you will sign those fucking papers or I will make you wish you were never born.”

“Go to hell.”
