Fuck.

I hated awkward and confusing.

“Yeah, he’s very good with littles and the drama associated with that but not so much when it comes to dating angst.” That got another quiet laugh. “So I was voted to be the one to figure out… let’s say where the mix-up happened.”

Because from everything Nicole had said, it was a beauty of a clusterfuck and nothing we’d done wrong… and as the organizer of the party, she’d have known.

Hoping that was accurate, because it was really what Harper wanted to hear, I waited to see what Tabitha’sguardian, as Nicole had called him, would say. That was going to be the major factor in what I told Harper about this phone call and when I told him about it.

“I was voted to explain the mix-up because Tabitha still has her head stuck in the sand.” His frustrated tone had me wanting to smile and feeling a bit less irritated about the whole thing even though nothing had been fixed yet. “I can’t explain everything about her background, but what I can say is that it never occurred to her that you’d actually want to see her again.”

Wait. What?

It only took me a second to realize her past must be some kind of fucked up for that to have been her line of thinking. I knew it would matter at some point, but for the time being, I took it to mean that he didn’t want us to be pissed or frustrated with her.

“We should’ve made that clearer earlier in the evening.” There was no way I was claiming fault for the situation, but looking back, technically we should’ve made it more obvious that we wanted to see her again before she’d started getting tired.

He snorted and I pictured him rolling his eyes. “She’s nearly delusional on this, so we’ll just have to move on from here. Do you actually want to take her on a grown-up date to see if there’s chemistry outside of the Daddy and little dynamic? I won’t let her see you if this is just going to be casual for you and you’re only looking for someone to play with once in a while.”

He wouldn’t let us?

How was he in charge?

Would we be dating him too?

This was why I hated dating. People were weird.

He was distracting enough I almost ignored how much baggage Miss Tabitha was going to be bringing with her. We seemed to be at the old-fashioned steamer trunk level, so that had to be taken into account… right?

“We’re looking for a third and a little.” What else? Baggage was something we could come back to. “We both like men and women, but as our conversations on the topic of finding a third evolved, we knew we wanted to look for a female sub and little as our partner.”

We’d both played with male subs in different ways in the past but we were too drawn to women to ignore that side of our needs.

Besides, curves were sexy.

But that wasn’t what he wanted to hear at the moment. “I can’t promise love at first sight or permanency. If I did, that would just be a lie, but what I can say is that we’re not looking for someone to have a scene with once in a while.”

Who wanted that anyway?

We’d get to know a sub and then best case scenario they vanished for weeks at a time? At the very least, what kind of Dom wanted such a small amount of control?

Getting back on track, I tried to figure out what else to say. “We’d like to take Tabitha out, and as you said, see if we’re compatible in other areas, but we enjoyed spending time with her at the party and I know Harper thought she was funny and very sweet.”

Aside from enjoying her personality when she was little, he’d loved the idea of a partner in crime who looked cute and wanted goats too.

For some reason, he thought she’d be the perfect person to help talk me into his shenanigans. He was nuts but I was polite and had refrained from pointing that out. Primarily because it was getting him to do the yard work he’d been promising me that he would do for the past month.

“I think that’s a very reasonable approach to the situation.” Something in his voice had me picturing him nodding. “I’ll let you take her out to dinner this upcoming weekend but there are several qualifiers to that.”

As he started to list things off, I knew he was counting on his fingers. “There will be no making her feel bad about not understanding that you wanted to see her again. You will buy her dessert unprompted. It should be ice cream or chocolate based. You’ll let her ask any questions she wants about your relationship.”

His list seemed obvious enough to me, but he explained like he wasn’t sure I got the most important parts of it. “I don’t want her walking away from the date not understanding what you’re looking for or feeling like a third wheel because there’s too much she didn’t ask. Oh, and she wasn’t kidding about the not liking bananas thing.”

God, it sounded like her dating history was worse than ours combined.

And of course she hadn’t been kidding… she’d nearly gagged just talking about the damned things.

I wasn’t a moron.
