“Um, then we all said we had a good time on our date and they even listed off nice things and I left.” Hmm, not lying either. I was doing fabulously. “They weren’t weird or rude or creepy or even mean. It really was a good first date.”

Ender’s snort said I wasn’t doing as fabulously as I’d hoped. “A first date where you want to see them again should not be described as fine or good… and I’m really tempted to put comfortable on that list, but I’m willing to let it go for now.”

He was so annoyingly stubborn.

Hmm, maybe I didn’t need cookies. I had other sweet things.

“It’s a good word.” Moving away from the pantry that was very low on yummy things, I started digging through the fridge for juice. Hmm, fruit punch. Yes. That had a mix of fruits, so Ender couldn’t complain about me eating crap if I tattled on myself. “They made me feel mac and cheese good.”

He was quiet for a moment. “Do you mean they make you feel homey and safe?”

“Yes, but I still think my way explains things in better detail.” Homey sounded like I’d bought something to decorate my house and safe made it sound like they were some kind of security system.

“Possibly.” Ender sighed but didn’t stay pouty for long. “In this case, however, I think my wording sounds clearer. That doesn’t explain the lack of passion in your description of your evening, though, Trouble. Just because it’s not something I need in a relationship doesn’t mean that I’m clueless about you or intimacy in general.”

Rolling my eyes, I ignored his ridiculousness and started looking for the perfect cup for my juice. Hmm, maybe a glass? Oh, what about a sippy cup? A straw cup?

Ender cleared his throat, trying to interrupt my important planning. “You’re ignoring me.”

“Help me pick out a cup.” Yes, that was much more fun to talk about. And if I told him I was having juice, then he’d start to lecture and that would be much better than having to explain intimacy issues.

Chapter 7

Gaylen

He was going to say it.

We’d screwed up.

Something had gone wrong.

She was unhappy.

It was probably all correct at least in some way, but that wasn’t what he needed to hear. Before he could say anything as we watched her drive away through the window by the front door, I stepped behind him and kissed his neck. “She can pout all she wants but you know we were right. She’ll understand that once she realizes we’re not going anywhere.”

Letting out a breath, Harper nodded and leaned back against me. “I like making her happy.”

Oh yeah.

But since he was a people pleaser Dom in general, I wasn’t surprised.

“Making her happy in the long run is just as important as making her happy now… probably more so, honestly.” And no matter how much she smiled or pretended, she wasn’t happy. “Before we have a spanking scene or anything like that, she needs to understand that we’re not going anywhere unless that’s what she wants.”

She wasn’t a short-term fling but I wasn’t sure she knew that.

She was also stubbornly oblivious to the discussion we should have before we had a scene like that. She’d kept saying she understood but something about the way she’d left had felt off even though she hadn’t said anything negative.

Tabitha could’ve been tired, but I just wasn’t sure where we stood. That wasn’t the message I wanted to send to Harper, though. He needed me to be relaxed and confident. I could be pissed at myself for stupid reasons later.

As he nodded, I kissed him again, this time nibbling under his ear and rocking against him. “How about tomorrow we call her and see about setting up a little playdate later this week? Something fun. We’ll pick out some books and cartoons, and if you’re lucky, I’ll pretend I didn’t see you looking at personal ball pits on your phone earlier.”

He chuckled, shaking his head. “I don’t know what you’re talking about.”

Scoffing, I bit down on his ear, loving the little moan he let out. “I also didn’t see you looking up fancy tea party sets.”

It seemed like the basement was going to be turned into a playroom, but it wasn’t goats or laser tag, so I wasn’t going to complain too much. I was just going to use it to occasionally get my way. “I’m also guessing you’ve been looking up places to buy pretty dresses from?”

That’d just been a shot in the dark but I knew I’d guessed right when he groaned. As I chuckled, I kissed down his neck again. “I bet you were looking up cute frilly panties to go under the dresses and pretty jammies too.”
