Tabitha giggled and nodded, not even pretending to be worried about Gaylen. “Magic Daddy.”

Gaylen kept making dramatic strangled noises that had Tabitha grinning as she leaned into me again. “Silly Grumpy Gaylen?”

“Oh yes.” Shifting my relaxed hold on her so I could rub her back, I kept a close eye on how she reacted as I teased Gaylen. “He needs a nap.”

She managed not to laugh out loud that time, but her shoulders shook and she looked delighted at the whole dramatic act he was performing. “Poppy juice?”

“That’s a good idea. A little sweetness might make him happier.” My answer had Gaylen turning to me with a serious frown on his face and laughter in his eyes.

“Nope, I want ice cream. If I don’t get a nap or cuddles, I want ice cream.” Gaylen’s idea had Tabitha’s eyes widening, which gave him a very smug look.

“Yes, Poppy.” She reached over and patted him again, rewarding him for his impressive ideas and for not being nearly as grumpy anymore. “Goodies.”

“Now who’s spoiling her?” Neither of them answered in words, with Tabitha snickering and Gaylen rolling his eyes.

“Happy Daddy asks the most ridiculous things. You see why I have to be the stern Dom who says no goats?” Gaylen sighed as she let out a huff and nodded. “Yep, someone has to make sensible rules… and it’s not going to be the mush you’re sitting on.”

Her ear-to-ear grin had Gaylen looking very pleased with himself. He even shrugged and stopped being such a grump. “You know, there are always good rewards for little girls who follow the rules.”

She knew what he meant and started giggling again as she hid her face against my shoulder. Her bashful act was just that, though, because her foot reached out and rubbed against his leg as she snickered.

Hmm, someone liked Happy Daddy and Grumpy Poppy.

Was it wrong to hope that her innocent cute side was paired with an equally naughty feisty one somewhere?

It wasn’t the right moment to ask, but I sent out a plea to the universe that she was paying attention to what we had and hadn’t said. She seemed just as mischievous and adorable as her friend had said she was.

Hmm, speaking of her friend…

“Tabitha? Was that your friend?” Was there a good way to ask a little if we’d just met her brother or her keeper or hersomething?

She giggled again as she sat up straight and nodded. “Grumpy friend.”

Her own joke sent her off into peals of laughter again and she nearly fell off my lap. Gaylen was shaking his head as he glanced over at her friend. “Tabitha, does your friend want company? There are other single people here that he might like.”

It was an obvious play for information that she didn’t seem to mind, but she certainly took her time answering, bouncing her head back and forth as she tapped her finger to her chin. “Think. Think. Think.”

Someone had watched Pooh recently.

Sitting up straight like a cartoon light bulb had gone off over her head, she smiled sweetly as she poked my chest. “Boy, boy. Boy, girl.”

Barely managing not to laugh again, she leaned over and gave Gaylen a poke. “Boy, boy. Boy, girl.”

Then she got a turn and she poked her own chest. “Girl. Boy.”

Looking around for her friend, she waved as he glanced up from his book, psychic when it came to Tabitha. “Boy. No.”

Huh?

I must’ve looked ridiculous because she started laughing again. “Boy. Nope.”

Gaylen was trying to be serious, but it was hard. “He’s asexual?”

Oh,nope.

That was a good guess.

But as Tabitha nodded and giggled, she shook her finger at Gaylen. “Naughty words. No, bad boy.”
