“For fuck’s sake.” Gaylen’s dramatic groan had both of us looking at him oddly. “I really wish you two would stop proving Ender right.”

Okay, that was frustrating sometimes but it still wasn’t enough information to know what was going on.

“I’m sorry he upset you, Master.” Tabitha solved the problem by reaching out to Gaylen and pulling him closer to give him a kiss. “If he’s mean, I can have Daddy send me more goodies to work. That’ll make his head explode.”

“That’s just ridiculous. He shouldn’t get jealous that he’s not getting cake. We’re not dating him or trying to keep him.” Besides, he didn’t seem to like sweets as much as Tabitha did. If we were dating him, I’d have sent books or flowers.

That seemed too obvious to even mention, but I started second-guessing it when they both gave me the same odd look. “He doesn’t like cake.”

Tabitha giggled but Gaylen looked up at the ceiling. “How do we end up in these conversations?”

I wasn’t so sure God would be helpful in this situation, so I focused on Tabitha. She was the sanest person of the two of them at the moment. “Ignore the ridiculous man. You can always take your time with anything we talk about. You’ll let me know when you want to talk about the storage downstairs and renovating the bathroom so your stuff will fit more easily.”

She blinked while Gaylen started talking to God again. “I will? Yes, I will.”

We both ignored the drama queen as she fought to stay on topic. He really was distracting, so I couldn’t blame her. “I… I don’t have anywhere to put my bubble bath, Daddy. So maybe we should talk about it? I… I could help pick out a new vanity?”

“See?” Giving Gaylen anI told you solook as he finally stopped being so insane, I gestured between them. “She just needed time.”

As he kept grumbling about crazy men and Ender, I focused on our sweet girl. “Should we go to one of the home stores next weekend and look at some options? Then we’ll start working on a plan. If you don’t have a plan before you start talking to contractors, things go sideways very quickly.”

Nodding, Tabitha sat straighter, no longer looking quite as wobbly. “Yes, Daddy. I like planning. Oh, and I’ve got some software at work that will help us make a 3D model of the bathroom. That’ll help.”

“That’s a wonderful idea.” And much better than trying to do it on grid paper like we were back in high school. “We’ll start looking at colors too. Maybe we’ll get Gaylen to paint the master bedroom while we’re redoing the bathroom. This whole floor could use a face-lift, honestly, but we didn’t want to make big decisions like that until we found you, sweetheart. Two against one and all that.”

And she was back to blinking at me.

Just when I was getting ready to poke her and make sure she was feeling all right, she jumped off the bed and hugged me tight. “I’ll help, Daddy, and yes, no two against one. Thank you for waiting for me.”

“You’re welcome, sweetheart.” As I kissed her softly, Gaylen finally stopped grumbling and wrapped himself around both of us.

He definitely needed a nap and some cake, but we’d ignore his dramatics until he felt better. Then we’d make him figure out how tothoroughlyapologize. But for the time being, I just smiled as he kissed both our heads. “I love how you constantly remind me why I’m needed in this relationship.”

Tabitha giggled as I rolled my eyes at his comment and focused on the drama llama who kept sighing. “You’re so dramatic sometimes but that’s why we love you.”

Gaylen went back to grumbling under his breath as he rested his head on Tabitha’s shoulder. It just left her giggling and wearing a beaming smile. I was glad she was so excited about helping with the bathroom, but at some point we really needed to talk about her storage needs.

However, I was going to be patient.

When it seemed like all we were going to do was watch him sigh and groan, I focused back on our girl. “Let’s get you cleaned up since your Master seems to have forgotten all about why we came up here.”

Barely managing to stop giggling, she nodded very earnestly and kissed my cheek sweetly. “Yes, Daddy.”

Still grinning, she looked at Gaylen and reached up to pat his head. “It’s okay, Master. You don’t have to help fix the bathroom. I can help Daddy paint too if you don’t want to do it.”

I wasn’t sure volunteering us for that job was the best idea but it kept Gaylen from grumbling any longer and he barely huffed that time. “You think all this is funny, don’t you?”

For some reason she nodded excitedly. “Yes.”

Shaking his head until he finally seemed to realize how ridiculous he was being, he took a deep breath. “Fine. Then I’m just going to toss out there that Ender told me we should be talking about kitten here coming to stay at our house on busy weeks so that we get to see her every night, even if it’s just for a bit before bed.”

“Oh, that’s a wonderful idea.” Ignoring the way Gaylen was back to shaking his head, I took Tabitha’s hand and started leading her toward the bathroom as he collapsed back on the bed.

Nothing would get done if we left it up to the drama Dom, so I just let him talk to the ceiling or God or whoever he thought was listening and turned to Tabitha. “This also might be the right time to point out that your house is too small for all three of us, sweetheart.”

Tabitha was so well-behaved as I turned on the water and started taking off her clothes that she didn’t even giggle when it was clear that I was claiming the shower with her. “I… I’ve been thinking about that, Daddy.”

“Because you’re so smart.” Kissing her nose as I took off the dress that seemed to be getting dirtier every time I looked at it, I stayed on track and didn’t get distracted by her near nakedness. “It’s very cute, sweetheart. But with Gaylen needing an office full-time, and your toys, and us working from home sometimes too, I just don’t see all of us being able to live at your house.”
