“When do they get broken in? Nothing is quite like the first heat,” someone asked. We all froze, recognizing the deep voice as Dorian’s.

“Fucking hell,” Cyrus growled. “If I hadn’t already killed him, I’d do it again.”

“Step out if you need to. We lose it all if you break my shit,” Hayes said evenly, trying to keep his cool as his father’s anger boiled over. He stormed out, and I started to follow but hesitated. I wanted to see this through.

“Is this enough to get him?” I asked Hayes.

“With everything else we have? It’s really fucking close,” he agreed.

“Sh,” Weston growled, and we turned back to the screen as Burke’s phone rang. He accepted the call, though he never greeted the person on the other line.

“Agreed,” he finally said. “They’re interested. Set us up at the Garrison, and make sure you have the scientist on hand. Keep your head low. The media is already suspecting trafficking, and we don’t need suspicion on us.”

“And there we have it,” Hayes said. “Before I watch the rest and get this information set up, I wanted to show you something.”

He switched out of the video and pulled up the screenshot I’d sent him of the financial report.

“I scoured these. Every month, he pays a different amount, all between ten and fifteen thousand, to the same girl. Sadie Gomez.”

“Is that her real name?”

“Yes,” Hayes said, then he pulled up the birth certificate and put it next to the old one he’d taken a scan of. The information was identical down to the time, dates, and location. The only change was her name and the baby’s name.

“So sheisthe senator’s daughter?”

Hayes hummed quietly in agreement and pulled up the final document, an NDA. “Her name is on this, too. He wanted to keep her quiet and pay her off? That’s enough to rouse suspicion, I’d say.”

“We’ve got videos, images, and enough documents to end his career, Bailey,” Sterling said. “What do we do now?”

ChapterTwenty-Nine

Bailey

It was finally the moment I’d been working toward. We had a damning pile of evidence, and Hayes had his emails poised and ready. He assured me everything would be completely anonymous and untraceable.

We simply had to sit and wait once we hit send.

“We’ve got the FBI, every major and minor news outlet, some prominent political vloggers, and even the president on this list,” Sterling said as he ticked them off. “Who are we missing?”

“Send it to his former universities and colleagues too. They’ll strip him of everything they can,” I added in.

Weston grinned. “Savage. I like it. Do we want to take bets on how soon shit hits the fan?”

“Oh, the media will be getting this information too, though not every detail we’re giving the authorities,” Hayes said. “They’ll be foaming at the mouth to be the first to air it. I guarantee this will be some kind of breaking news within the hour.”

“I’m going to get the news channels going in the bar,” Cyrus said. He practically had a spring in his step. I followed him, knowing that Hayes would take it from here, though Weston and Sterling stayed behind just in case.

“Bentley, I need the remotes,” Cyrus called out before whistling a tune under his breath. For the first time since I’d met him, his silver hair was disheveled, and he looked downright relaxed.

“Who gave you a healthy dose of serotonin?” Bentley joked as he handed it over.

“Oh, just you wait.” Cyrus laughed as he turned each of the six televisions onto a different channel. “Clear that chalkboard. Put my money on North Harbor News.”

“I’m in on a bet,” Bentley said, writing our names down, then adding his bet on.

“What happened to all the other guys? The night we first came in here, it was packed,” I said as I took a bar stool. It was a nice setup, with the poker table, pool table, and other tables all clean and in great condition. Each was made of gold and dark wood. The bar matched the theme, and the marble floors were shined to perfection.

“They were Dorian’s associates. We cut ties with over half of them and black listed them with our allies,” Cyrus answered as he took the seat next to me. “We also asked for space while we changed leadership. They’ll be in and out more in the coming weeks.”
