“Dad! Valerie! Where are you?” Caleb called. The little shit.

“Coming, sweetheart!” Val answered.

I was looking at the door—glaring at it, actually—when her soft hand touched my face. My eyes found hers, and she stood on her toes to press a soft kiss to my lips. A zing of warmth went through my body at the contact.

“Tall girls never get to do that,” she whispered under her breath, pulling away from me. A little louder she said, “Thank you.”

I swallowed, wrapping my arm around her waist. “For being taller than you?” I deadpanned.

“For making me feel alive,” she answered, looking into my eyes.

Fuck.

She slipped from my hold, her green eyes bright, and headed downstairs to see my son.

I stood there for a few minutes, staring at the doorway.

What the fuck have I gotten myself into?

The Hayden Hotel. Room 312.

Shewasattemptingtobe cute for the man in the chair, watching her with a fake smile. There was a whiskey in his hand and a file on the table beside him. The blonde bartender from Tinkles Bar had done what he asked of her.

Now, there was something else that needed to be done.

Destroy Denver Langston.

Tim Moonie focused on her fake tits, not her face, as he willed his dick to get hard. He would fuck her tonight, giving her the illusion he actually gave a shit.

She was stupid, like all the rest.

Years ago, there had been a woman for him. She was perfect, perhaps a little too strong-willed, but perfect, nonetheless. He has no issues breaking a woman’s spirit. In fact, that was what he wanted to do to his perfect woman. Alas, she slipped through his fingers. She didn’t have fake blonde hair or fake tits. No, her hair reminded him of fire. He enjoyed it.

“You look handsome tonight, sir,” Cathy said, her voice raspy from years of chain smoking. His thoughts of his perfect woman drifted away as he looked up to Cathy’s face. Her hair was washed, and she’d attempted to curl it. A failed attempt. She was wearing jeans, cheap high heels, and a red tank top.

She looked like a washed-up buckle bunny and perhaps that is what she was. He knew she was engaged to Mason Langston years ago, when he was just starting out in the rodeo. Now, he was a top bull rider, and Hallow Ranch was in his past.

“Thank you, darling,” he drawled. He looked away from her then, setting down his whiskey. “Let’s go over the story again.”

She nodded and opened her mouth to speak, but Tim cut her off.

“On your fucking knees,” he barked.

She did as she was told. He sighed and smiled down at her. “Good. Continue.”

“Denver Langston raped me,” Cathy said.

“How?”

“He got me drunk at the bar and took me back to Hallow Ranch where he punched me. Then he held me down and raped me eleven years ago.”

“That’s when Mason Langston came in?” Tim guessed. She nodded. “What else, Cathy?”

She looked down, and anger flared inside of Moonie. He didn’t have time for remorse. He was on a deadline. Without a second thought, he decided to give her what she wanted. As much as he hated doing it, he reached out, gripped her chin and kissed her.

“Do you want Caleb to have a good life? Go to college? See the world?” Tim asked, struggling to be gentle.

Cathy nodded. “Yes.”
