Tinkles Bar. Hayden, Co.

Tim Moonie had lost his patience with Cathy. She wasn’t doing what needed to be done. His hand connected with her cheek again, the force of his slap sending her flying back against the wall. She came to him days ago, saying that Denver wasn’t going to budge and that her story didn’t scare him.

She also clung to Tim like a lost puppy. He had made he sign a contract before shoving his cock down her throat during their first meeting. When he walked into Tinkles for the first time, he had high hopes. Now? He just wanted to kill the woman.

“Should’ve known you didn’t have it in you!” he yelled.

“Tim—”

His hand shot out, gripping the back of her hair tightly, yanking at the skin on her scalp. “Enough!” he roared.

He threw her across the room, her used, ragged, half naked body landing on the floor with a loud thud. Tim’s chest heaved violently as he stared down at her. She had crashed into the filing cabinet before collapsing on the dirty carpet. The two of them were in the back office of the bar. Tim had just gotten back from Hallow Ranch, where he was shocked to find Valerie Cross standing on Denver’s front porch.

She was fucking him.

Tim Moonie cursed under his breath as he ran a hand through his hair. He should’ve kept her on. He had no idea Denver Langston would be attracted to a woman like that. Cathy was nothing like Valerie. Tim could’ve used Valerie.

It would have been dirty, but men like him didn’t stray from dirty.

“I’m sorry,” the woman wheezed out from her spot on the floor. Her eye was bruised from his strikes. There was a drop of blood hanging from her trembling bottom lip. He squatted down in front of her, seething.

“You are nothing but a fucking failure. A rotten whore!” he spat. The woman flinched. There were tears in her eyes now.

Tim could care less. He rose to his full height, pinching the bridge of his nose. A lighthearted laugh came from him as his anger took control of his senses. “I just—I don’t understand it, Cathy. You tell me you’re going to be faithful to me. That you’re going to do everything I told you to do. Yet, you failed.”

“Tim, please! I went to the police station in the next county today. I filed a report!” she cried. “They’re going to call me! I know it!”

It was no use.

Ms. Cross was siding with Hallow Ranch, and she knew too much. She had been on the inside; she knew how his company functioned. It was too late for Cathy. Tim knew that approaching her had been a risk—a long shot—but he’d been desperate. The local governments weren’t working with him, even though he promised this community jobs. The town of Hayden didn’t want the pipeline.

Hallow Ranch was all Tim wanted. Truthfully, he couldn’t care less if his pipeline destroyed the town. He had investors and materials waiting for the green light.

Before, he was willing to do this while keeping his hands clean.

Now?

Now, he longer gave a fuck. Anyone who stood in his way would fall. Hallow Ranch would be his, and in a year’s time, his pipeline would dominate that land.

Slowly, he looked down at Cathy, putting the tip of his shoe underneath her chin. “Sweetheart, I’m giving you one more chance,” he said coldly. His hands itched to beat her. He wanted to hear her screams of pain as he took control of her body. He wanted to watch the ife drain from her eyes.

These thoughts made him miss his perfect girl. One day, he would find her again, but for now, he would settle with Cathy. Without a second thought, he kicked the woman in the stomach, a snarl leaving his lips.

He wrote out instructions for her and left it on the floor beside her.

Tim had other business to attend to.

As he walked out of Tinkles, the man pulled out his phone and called Valerie Cross’ former supervisor. “Good evening, Charlotte. I hope I’m not bothering you after hours,” he said sweetly. He got into the back of the SUV, and the driver pulled out immediately.

“No, sir. How can I help you?”

“I know it hasn’t been that long since we terminated Valerie Cross’ employment, but I require her file.”

“Of course, sir. I’ll get that sent over to your assistant—”

He cut the woman off, loosening his tie. “Send it to me, please.”
