They were the right words to say. Scalding hot seed rushed through me, and I moaned, as I was pushed over the edge one more time—ecstasy rocking my body. The spill of him trickled down my leg and across the fabric of the couch.

But he still didn’t stop, his pushes still as fevered as they were, like he wanted me to go one more time.

Slow, sporadic thrusts rocked me, twitching me upward, locking him to me as if we were melded together like we were glued in place.

Once again, the pleasure began to intensify, starting between my legs and infiltrating every single cell of my body. But this was different—something else was happening. My gut tightened, and a warmth spread from my core, reaching out to Atlas. The energy between us danced and mingled to the point where I didn’t know where my soul stopped and his began.

He was mine. He was my mate.

Did he feel it, too?

Our lovemaking didn’t stop. He continued to thrust into me, our bodies becoming one. After we both came together again, he collapsed on top of me without warning, dropping his wet face into my shoulder. I could smell myself all over him, and when he raised his head, eyes on fire, another round of shivers shot through me in a torrent.

I would never feel the same again.

“Are you all right?” he asked, half-sitting against the back of the couch.

I laughed shakily.

“I’m not sure,” I confessed, my body quivering everywhere.

I couldn’t get ahold of myself. His strong hand cupped my face tenderly, and he met my eyes evenly.

“You’re safe now. Jesse can’t get you here. He wouldn’t dare try.”

I lowered my eyes. “Now,” I repeated. “What about later?”

He frowned at the question. “What about later?”

I dared a peek at him, wondering if he was toying with me again.

He was never really toying with me, though,I reminded myself. He was trying to protect himself, and despite the fact that he was at risk, he still saved me—us.

“I mean…” I inhaled. “What happens now, Atlas? What’s going to happen with me and Dahlia? We’ve been running our whole lives. We have no money, no skills. We have no family…”

I shuddered to think of Eugene, but I immediately brushed the thought of him aside. He was not our father. A father didn’t do what he had done.

“You and your sister will stay here,” Atlas answered, stunning me.

I hadn’t expected that, and my reaction was to shake my head.

“We can’t! The curse!” There was so much to talk about. Was he going to bring up the mate bond? He must have felt it snap into place.

“I think we’ve passed that point now, haven’t we?” he guffawed lightly, righting his body fully.

I couldn’t help but take him in. He was so beautiful, naked and glistening in the gleam of the fireplace. The flames caught the bejeweled green of his eyes, the hint of auburn in his otherwise chestnut mane. It made my already unsteady heartbeat faster, my head swim.

Was I thinking properly? Were we doing the right thing?

“Aren’t you worried?” I insisted. “Things could get bad for you.”

He snickered again. “You’re what? Twenty-two?”

“Twenty-three.”

His smile broadened.

“I barely remember that age,” he admitted. “I’ve been through more fires and floods than you can count on both hands, Bianca. Whatever might come my way. If the fates have decided I have done wrong, so be it. I will contend with them, too.”
