Chapter17

Abby

Against my better judgment, I allowed Elijah to remain in my house overnight. The thought of sending him back out to the shed after reconnecting felt cruel, but in the sober light of dawn, I realized my mistake.

“You have to get out of here,” I urged him, shaking him awake.

He blinked and looked at me sleepily. “What?” he teased, turning over to reveal his morning hard-on.

The simple sight of it turned me on, the temptation to go down on him overwhelming. I stifled it for the moment, knowing that I was pushing my luck already.

“You need to go back to the shed,” I told him, tugging at his hand.

He reached out to pull me back toward him, and for a minute, I didn’t resist, allowing my own naked flesh to press to his, heat rising between us as he slid his cock against my leg.

“I thought we weren’t doing that anymore,” he rasped in my ear, grinding against me.

I sighed softly, wetness forming between my thighs, but I resisted, pulling away.

“I have to get to work,” I murmured. “And you need to stay out of sight.”

I managed to untangle myself from his hold and rise from the bed, tossing his discarded clothing toward him, but he took his time getting up.

“I was going to fix your window for you today,” he protested. “Maybe make you dinner?”

“Elijah!”

He frowned and also stood, hastily dressing under my watchful stare. A pang of guilt shot through me. I didn’t want to keep him locked up.

“I’m going to look for a place for you today,” I promised. “We’ll move you out tonight, okay? This will be the last day you have to stay hidden.”

He didn’t answer me, but I could tell he didn’t like the idea of hanging out in the windowless building. Not that I could blame him.

I glanced at my cell phone, impatient to see him dressed and secured.

“Go,” Elijah told me, catching my uneasy time checks. “I’ll go to the shed and stay there. I swear.”

I eyed him uncertainly.

“Just go. You don’t want your boss getting mad, do you?”

I didn’t like his tone, but I ignored it for the moment.

“I’ll see you tonight,” I promised, dropping a quick kiss on his lips.

He returned it, and I grabbed my backpack, heading out toward the warehouse. I’d never noticed just how close Orson and Etta’s place was to mine until these past few days, but suddenly, it felt like they were right on top of me.

To my relief, Orson wasn’t there when I entered to stock up on my supplies for the day. The sorters nodded at me, but no one said a word as I dropped my backpack on the table and took a seat with my cell phone in hand, waiting for my orders to be filled.

I had a few minutes before I would head out, and I had promised to find somewhere to take Elijah that night. It was time to start looking for a place forthwith.

The problem then became where I could house Elijah without raising any suspicion from Orson. I’d have to find him a place near enough, so I could sneak away without being gone for too long. But he also needed to be far enough away, so that he wouldn’t be spotted by Orson or other members of the Verity Gang.

I started with the Sirrio listings because it was closer and more reasonable. It was also more remote, set further into the desert than Palay, which hosted far more tourists, being on the water.

But the other side of that was that Sirrio was small, and apartment listings were sparse, a problem I was already finding as I pulled up the site.

“Moving to Sirrio?” Orson asked from behind me.
