“I think I’ll survive,” I say dryly.

Cooper raises his hand in a wave. This is Penny’s doing, clearly, but I don’t mind if it means clearing the air with her boyfriend. He’s my roommate right now, on top of everything else. Over the past few days, he’s beenextremelypolite about knocking. I think seeing my boobs scarred him a little, which is hilarious considering the reputation he had before Penny. Not that I’m judging him; Sebastian had a similar reputation, and so did I. There’s nothing wrong with wanting casual connections in bed, no matter who you are, but being in a relationship is a lot different.

I guess things change when the right person comes into your life. I’m still scared shitless that it’ll all go up in flames, but if I’m trying this relationship thing with anyone, it’s Sebastian.

Penny drags him away to the bar. I sit down next to Cooper, stretching my arm over the back of the seat. He scrubs his hand over his neatly trimmed beard as he grimaces.

“Look,” he says. “I’m sorry about the way I acted. I was rude to you, and you didn’t deserve that. You and Sebastian have your own relationship and I’m not part of it. It’s just—I’m always going to protect him. Probably more than he needs, but I can’t help it. He’s my brother for life.”

I duck my head, feeling my face redden. “Thank you, but you were right. I wasn’t being fair to him.”

“Still. I’m sorry for goading you into something you maybe weren’t ready for.”

I huff out a laugh. It’s still strange to think that Sebastian likes me back; that he’s liked me since he saw me outside the movie theater last fall.

I remember that night. It was cold, so I broke out my favorite black scarf. Cooper and Penny were hooking up then, and dancing around each other. The dildo that Penny accidentally hit me with had met an untimely demise earlier in the day. And a guy with the greenest eyes I’d ever seen and a smile like a crescent moon couldn’t stop looking at me.

“I’m scared,” I admit.

“Because it matters.” He leans forward, squeezing my shoulder. “It’s always scary when it matters.”

I muster a smile. “Yeah.”

“I think you’re good together, for the record. I know how much you mean to Penny, and Sebastian deserves to be with someone like you. You’re whip-smart and funny, and he’s never let himself have someone in his life like this.”

I tuck my hair behind my ears. “Thanks, Coop. I like you and Penny together, too.”

By the way he smiles, he’s thinking about her. I send another thank you to the universe for giving Penny this. She deserves it, completely and wholeheartedly. She’s changed so much since last year, and it’s all for the better.

He settles back, downing the rest of his beer. “Just don’t break his heart.”

SEBASTIAN

I tiltmy head to the side with my eyes closed, listening as my bedroom door opens, shuts, and locks. When we got home from the bowling alley, Mia told me to go upstairs and wait in my room with my eyes closed. I’ve been patient—I lost our bet fair and square, after all, even if she hid her bowling prowess from me to secure victory—but the anticipation feels palpable, dragging across my skin. I haven’t touched myself yet, but my cock is half-hard already. I want to touch her, to taste her, to spank her for playing me for a fool… but it’s her night. Her win. I can already sense the electricity between us, that live golden wire dancing in the quiet of the room.

I hear her footsteps across the floor, and then I sense her. With my eyes closed, I focus on her warm presence and her jasmine scent. She must lean in, because something tickles my cheek; her hair, I’d be willing to bet. It’s a struggle to keep my hands to myself as my cock twitches in my jeans.

“You can open your eyes now,” she murmurs.

I take my hands away from my eyes, blinking a few times. When I shut them, the overhead light in my room was on, but now it’s off, with only the glow of my desk lamp illuminating the space. Mia stands before me in a black silk robe—and those gorgeous suede boots. Her hair hangs long and loose over her shoulders. She’s wearing the same jewelry as before, her little gold hoops and a matching gold chain, and she must have freshened up her makeup as well, because her lips shine with gloss.

My mouth goes dry instantly. No one—absolutely no one—comes close to her beauty. I know every guy thinks they’ve landed the most gorgeous girl in the world, but me? I actually have her. “Angel.”

She lets the robe fall off her shoulders, revealing a set of lacy black straps. I reach forward, but she shakes her head. Her lips press together like she’s holding back a smile. “Just sit back and relax.”

“You’re torturing me,” I say.

She presses her finger to my lips. “I haven’t even started, babe.”

She takes a step back, running her delicate hand through her hair, shaking it out over her shoulders. The robe slips down a couple more inches, showing off her toned arms. “Siri,” she says. “Play ‘My Heart Has Teeth.’”

I settle against the headboard, lacing my fingers together behind my head. I’ve never heard of the song she just turned on, but the beat that fills the room is dark and fucking sexy. She moves her hips to the music, toying with the tie on the robe.

If I’m not careful, I’m going to come in my pants before she even touches me.

The beat of the song feels like a handprint against my heart. I fist my fingers in my jeans, forcing myself to keep from pulling out my cock and giving it a stroke. A wicked smile plays on her lips as she unties the robe. She lets it fall slowly, moving all the while. When it slips away from her front, I can’t help it, I groan aloud.
