“Kitty, look! Holy shit, that’s Laramie Briscoe and her husband, Michael. I should go say hi, tell her how much I love her Heaven Hills series, and then fell in love with the Heaven Hills Generation series. Everything she writes from MC to task force to emergency response, they all are so good. I’ll let you borrow some so you can see. And they just got a puppy, think his name is Gus. He’s so cute. She shares pictures all over her Facebook page and readers’ group.”

I grab her by both shoulders, kind of shaking her to get her attention back on me.

“Hannah, think for a second. Like us, they probably traveled to get to this place and are spending a little time together. Don’t mess with that. I’m sure, as excited as you are for tomorrow, put yourself in an author’s place. They are probably excited, nervous, anxious, and really want to meet the readers, but could be shy and worried. Let her enjoy her time with her husband tonight.”

I watch as Hannah takes a breath, closes her eyes, and takes a few more deep breaths. Just when I think I got through, she opens her eyes and screams, pushing me away from her. She takes off in a sprint, as I see the two people we were just talking about standing behind us a ways.

“Um, sorry to interrupt, but we wanted to make sure you two were okay. Sounded pretty heated and, oh sorry, I’m Laramie and this is Michael. I kind of heard what you said and got to say thank you for thinking about how us authors feel. Now, I have a few minutes to talk if you would like to. What’s your names?”

I watch Hannah struggle then when she opens her mouth, I’m so proud of her.

“Thanks so much, Laramie. Sorry, didn’t mean to be a pain in the ass. Oh, I’m Hannah and this is Kitty. We’re from Montana, and I totally love all your books. But Kitty’s right, you guys go, I’ll catch up with you tomorrow. If you can save me a book or two, don’t care which ones. Again, nice to meet you. We’ll see you both tomorrow. Night.”

Then she turns, grabs my hand, and then skips, yeah skips, toward where the cabins are located. On the way we find some snacks to eat and when we get back to our bright as fuck teal cabin, the four of us stay up laughing and goofing around to the early morning hours. I know that I for sure am having a fucking blast with my sisters. Just what we all need to get this trip back on track and going in the right direction. Finally. We can be wild and free.

‘CLEMENTINE’

SPITFIRE/FLAME

I’m bouncing in my seat as Bullet takes the turn into the resort where the MMM23 is taking place. It blows my mind that this man, along with the other ones in the back of the SUV, took time to make sure I made it to this event. Well, Heavens to Betsy, I almost peed myself when Bullet told me he was going to drive me to Lake Conroe so I could go to the signing. Bless his heart, I kissed the heck outta my man.

“Flame, ya need to calm that fine ass down before you bust something. We all told you that you’d get here in plenty of time. Look, we can even grab a bite to eat and relax before this crazy as fuck thing starts. Can’t wait to stretch my legs, even though this cage is comfortable, still makes me feel claustrophobic. Miss my bike. Hey, Iron, how’re you and Joy doing? Is your woman ready to jump out of her skin too? I don’t get our women. They both live with real-life bikers, why does this book signing shit have both of our women crazy?”

I start to giggle listening to Bullet, as I hear Joy snort from the back. I’m thrilled they both tagged along, even though they were worried about leaving Everly home. I know for a fact she’s staying with Grace, Stitch, and their family. That little girl is in heaven.

In the final row of seats are Doc and Dingo. Now, I get Doc, he’s really good friends with Iron and Joy. Dingo, on the other hand, goodness gracious, I ain’t got a clue why he’d tagged along. I know the Grimm Wolves MC is busier than a cat covering crap on a marble floor. Oh well, the more the merrier is what my granny always said.

“Bullet, yes, let’s get some breakfast. Hope they have flapjacks, got a craving. Also my eyeballs are floating so we need to move before I soak the seat.”

Hearing Joy snorting, I try very hard not to laugh because I really need to pee. I hear Bullet telling the guys something that catches my attention.

“Who’s Presley? How do you guys know her?”

All three of them start laughing hysterically while I try to figure out what’s so dang funny.

“Damn, thought I mentioned it, Flame. It’s Karma’s younger cousin who’s coming to our club to prospect. Karma threw his name into the mix, so he’s got to go before the members and answer at least a hundred questions before the club lets him know if he’s even got a chance. He’s supposed to meet us here. I guess shit is going down with Tink’s club, the Devil’s Handmaidens. From what I heard, it’s something about a few of their prospects running away so they could come to this book signing. Now, don’t have the whole story, but one of the girls is very special to not only Tink, but also Shadow, Tank, and Momma Diane. So Tank put out the word across the states for club brothers to keep an eye out. Karma told Presley and, by the luck of God, he ran into them and has been trailing behind them. I guess they finally caught on and he’s now trying to get out of the doghouse, trying to keep his eyes on them, and keep the girls safe. This is like his first test, so he don’t want to fail, not only the Grimm Wolves MC, but more importantly Karma, his cousin.”

“Really, Bullet? We get a chance to see not only Tink and Shadow but some of the Devil’s Handmaidens club at this signing? Wow, now I’m really excited. Would love to catch up with those gals. They were so awesome when all that stuff went down with Chains. They are badass, especially Shadow, though she scares me. Hope they want to hang with us but sounds like they got some trouble brewing too.”

I guess that makes sense about Karma’s cousin. I reckon he’s got some luck because he has his eyes on those runaways. Will say, wouldn’t want to be them girls with both Tink and Shadow after them.

I do have a question. My granny always said the squeaky wheel gets the grease, so here goes.

“Dingo, why did you want to come with us to this signing? I get Joy and Iron. Doc goes where Iron goes and vice versa. But I figure a single man, if he had his druthers, wouldn’t want to spend days in a car driving to a book signing with two crazy women and their men. Dingo, you coming with and why I can’t read, no pun intended.”

The vehicle goes silent, and I wait as everyone else does. Dingo is a strange one because one minute he’s sharing his life story then the next minute his mouth is shut tight. Maybe I shouldn’t have asked, not my business, as Bullet would tell me.

“Spitfire, leave it to you to speak your mind. No worries, hon, got no secrets. Been talking to a bitch, I mean, a woman online and she’s from Texas. When I mentioned the signing, she asked where and I told her it was in North Houston. She asked if I was going ’cause she might come up so we could hookup. She’s a riot and we seem to get along, so I told her, yeah, meet me here. Ya never know, if it works out, maybe she can hitch a ride back with us.”

I hear Doc take in a deep breath before he blows.

“Motherfucker, what do you mean if it works out? We’re sharing a room, you asshole, we ain’t in college and a sock on the door will not work.”

“Brother, chill, if we hook up, got no problem with you sleeping while we get busy. She seems pretty open-minded, so live and let live.”

“Dingo, that shit is definitely not happening, and no, I’m not good being in a room having to hear you moaning and groaning trying to get your shit off. Fuck, what the goddamn hell were you thinking, for Christ’s sake? Get your own room, asshole.”
