Page 3 of Running Wild

Everyone else, business as usual. Let’s keep working to get information on the circuit that is running through and around our hometown. Need to bust that shit up as quickly as possible. Got some hits on the Thunder Club Knuckle Brotherhood. You know, that asshole white supremacy group that hangs out on that huge acreage of land between here and Bozeman. This bullshit with Squirt, the twins, and Kitty isn’t the most important. I worry though if any of this group is watching our club they just saw the four idiots leave. So them running is just an inconvenience that has gotten our blood pressure up and let us know we ain’t keeping our prospects busy enough. Remember that when those four get back. The fouler the job, the better, let’s keep that in mind.”

When Tink approaches me with Shadow right behind her, I tense up. I’m not one to bump shoulders with these two and tend to fade into the background most days. By my choice.

“Sister, thanks for keeping your cool and getting Dani to talk, though not a hard job, that kid can blabber on. At least we have an idea now where they are. Gonna talk to Dad and see if he thinks we should send some sisters down there to have their backs. I’ll keep ya in the loop.”

She pats my shoulder then moves to the hall and, I’m guessing, her office. Shadow, on the other hand, is still glaring at me with those ice-blue eyes, showing no emotions whatsoever. I give her a shoulder shrug, hands up.

“Not sure what you want, Shadow, I told you everything. I didn’t hide a goddamn thing.”

Just when she goes to open her mouth, the door opens and in stalks Pops, Noodles, and Panther, whose eyes are on his woman immediately. Shadow’s face changes as a small smirk hits her lips. Holy fuck, no way? She’s actually got some human in her,I think to myself. Like she heard me, Shadow turns looking my way as Panther makes his way to us. When he reaches his woman, he wraps his arms around her, pulling her close, his eyes though are on me. Feeling tingling from his stare, I wish I’d already left the room. When he gives me a chin lift, I think all is good until he almost knocks me down with a gorgeous killer smile. Then he drops his bomb, and I don’t know how he knew what I was thinking.

“Yeah, surprising isn’t it, Vixen? At times she can play in the sandbox with others and even show some human traits. Enjoy the rest of your day, darlin’.”

Then he turns them and walks away as I drop my jaw. How the fuck did he know what I was thinking? With that thought I turn and hightail it out of there and back to my own little piece of quiet. I like my alone time, keeps my mind quiet too. Not a big people person at all.

‘HANNAH’

SQUIRT/ITTY BITTY

“Are you fucking kidding me, biotch? No way! You not only called and checked in, but let it out of the bag where we exactly are? What the shit is wrong with you, Dani? Thought you were, how did you say it, ‘all in, can’t wait to get outta Montana for some adventure.’ Then you stab all three of us in the back first chance. Real nice, sister. So what? Are they sending a posse to come get us and bring us back for our club punishment? Son of a bitch, they are going to take my kutte for sure this time. Christ’s sake, what the hell was I thinking? I need a life, that’s for sure, and from the way it’s looking, I’ll have plenty of time on my hands. Thanks, sister, for nothing.”

Dani hasn’t moved, barely breathing. What a dumbass. Though in a way, and I’d never tell her, I’m glad she made the call. She’s braver than my ass, that’s for sure. At least they kind of have an idea where we are heading. Didn’t think it’d be this scary out here, four young women not even sure where they’re going. I mean, yeah, the signing is in Texas, and I have the address to the location, but still, we are going through a bunch of states and at the moment that scares the ever-loving shit out of me.

Lost in my thoughts, I jump when someone puts a hand on my shoulder. Looking up, Dottie is staring at me like I lost my mind. Maybe I did, who the hell knows anymore?

“Yeah, sorry, Dottie, lost in my own thoughts. Whatcha need?”

“Ready to go, hoping we can get at least another hour or two on the road before we have to stop for the night.”

Nodding, we all head out to the SUV with Dani staying way back. Yeah, that’s right I’m so pissed at her, better stay out of my way for a bit ’til I burn this shit off in my head. We all take our seats and Dottie hits the ignition. As we head back to the interstate, no one says a word. That is until we all hear the rumble. Those of us who can spare a look don’t see anything, but the noise is getting closer and closer. For a minute I worry it’s Maggie, my sister and our president, but when I see the bikes lined up single file coming up to our side, the smile that hits my face is huge.

These are what I’ve wanted to see after reading all the books I have. Yeah, my whole family is bikers, but the word that stands out is family. And the ones who aren’t related are so afraid of my pops, Tank, they won’t even look at me. Not to mention Auntie Zoey, or better known as Shadow of the Devil’s Handmaidens MC has put the word out I’m off-limits. Fuck, she beat down Dylan when we were only making out. At this rate, I’ll never become a woman and lose my dreadful V-card.

As we travel down the interstate no one says a word for a long while. Well, until someone does. Dani, that is.

“I didn’t tell anyone where we are at. I just said what state we currently stopped in. I’m sorry, Hannah, but for Dottie and me, being a Devil’s Handmaidens sister is everything. Your chances of fucking up and still being able to prospect are way better than any of ours. No, don’t get mad at me and start screaming again. Neither of us can take that, so just don’t do it. I get your life was messed up and you lived a horrific one but guess what, sister,so did every other woman in the club. That’s how we all came together. Well, besides Tink losing her mind to find you. And I’ll say it, even though the three of us are thinking the same thing. Why didn’t you just talk to the sisters before we went off like a bunch of teenagers running away from home? Do you even know how much trouble all four of us are in? More important question is, knowing we’d be in trouble, did you even care what would happen to us? No, don’t answer, in fact, don’t talk to me at all the rest of the trip. I didn’t deserve you screaming at me, and I swore a long time ago I’d never let anyone treat me like nothing and, Hannah, you just did that to me. Sorry if you think I ruined your trip and good time. I’ll stay out of your way going forward. I’m done.”

With that, Dani shuts up but that doesn’t stop any one of us from hearing the sniffling or seeing her wiping her tears and nose. Son of a bitch, not what I wanted our trip to be like. And she’s wrong, this isn’t all about me, I want all of us to have fun. Just a few days of letting our hair down, having fun, and not being treated like trash—the way being a prospect is day in and day out. Looking up, I see Dottie eyeballing me, her anger all over her face. Kitty is looking out the window and hasn’t said a word since we found Dani on the phone. FUCK.

* * *

We’ve been on the road for a couple of hours and still no one is talking. I got to go pee again but I’m too afraid to ask. Don’t want to make that request since I’m on everyone’s shit list. Must have sent out some vibes or something. I hear someone, Kitty, clear her throat before turning to kind of face everyone.

“Um, think maybe we should call it a day? We can find a hotel, check in, freshen up, and grab some food, if everyone is on board. Come on, if this is the way the rest of this trip is going to go, we might as well just turn around and go back home to Montana. I feel like I’ve got acid in my stomach from all the arguing and then the dead quiet ride. We all have blame in how this went down. Dani, you know I love you, girl, but Hannah didn’t put a gun to any of our heads. We were all looking to get our wild on and she provided us the venue. And, Hannah, you had no right to scream at Dani or any of us. Remember, you’re the newest prospect and, personally, I don’t care if you’re a legacy. Means nothing to me because it doesn’t affect me. So what’s it going to be? Stop for the night then keep going to Texas, or stop then go back home? I’ll go along with whatever the majority decides, just saying, I can’t take another whole day of this juvenile, high school, mean girl bullshit.”

I wait for Dani or Dottie to put in their two cents but nothing from either of them. I know what I have to do so I open my trap.

“Dani, swear to God I’m sorry, didn’t mean to lose my mind, I just know how Maggie and Auntie Zoey are. Right now probably both of them and Pops, along with Momma Diane, are on their way to Texas to bust our chops, well mainly mine, and bring all of us back to good old Timber-Ghost. I lost my mind and took it out on you. Had no right and didn’t mean to bring up bad memories for you or Dottie. Please forgive me, sister, you tell us what we’re going to do and that will be our plan.”

Dani turns around and looks me in the eyes, tears in hers.

“Never talk to me that way again, Hannah, or there will be hell to pay. It might be ugly but I’ll beat your ass, I swear to God. I accept your apology and, yeah, let’s keep going. We deserve to have some fun, so let’s go have some. Dottie, keep an eye out for a hotel. We’ve already run away so time to get our wild on.”

Everyone starts laughing and clapping their hands. I manage to catch Dani’s eyes and mouth, “Really sorry.” She nods and I pray all is better. Thank Christ. Need to pay better attention to how I do things. Auntie Shadow is so right, I need to grow the fuck up and pay attention to who has my back.
