SOREN

The distance to our mansion grew shorter. Soon I landed on my lawn.

The guys had shifted and fought a small army of Demons. Each of my people faced at least two or three hostiles. The Demons didn’t fight as a unit but rather as individuals. There was no time left to play around. Not now, not with the looming threat of being ripped apart by the forces of darkness.

“Group,” I barked in my best alpha fashion. We needed to move fast to ensure our survival and ensure we’d be here to protect the ones we love. An image of Yana flashed inside my mind.

I felt a collective sigh of relief from the pack. I launched my large wolf into the madness.

A Demon who used two swords to keep the twins in check was the first that felt my teeth. They were silver. He was good but too cocky. My teeth clamped against his throat, and his head fell to the ground. Old, disgusting-tasting blood filled my mouth and made me regret I couldn’t spit in wolf form.

Torin’s wolf howl filled the yard. One Demon shot him in his chest. I ran, jumping on the Demon from the side. My full weight landed on his chest. His ribs cracked and stabbed his organs from the inside.

“You okay, brother?” I asked Torin through our connection.

“Yes, but help Will.”

Torin’s pain entered my mind, but I pushed it aside. It was from a silver bullet, but it was a flesh wound. We can pick the shell out and he’ll heal.

Will was bleeding from thousands of minor cuts. His white-grey fur was matted with his blood. Four Demons attacked him from different angles. He couldn’t catch a break. He would jump, pounce, and kill one Demon, only to have another coming from the side or from behind.

“Alpha,” Will called out as I came running with my beta on my heels. I punched into the first of the Demons, throwing him to the ground.

Torin cried out in pain. Another Demon had managed to sneak in close and stick a silver blade into his shoulder. The roar filled me with aggression.

“No one comes into my house, into my yard, and kills my people, no one!” I roared over the sound of my own beating heart.

We were outnumbered. New Demons seemed to rise out of nowhere and add to the lines of those attempting to kill us. Wild black eyes pierced mine. I read the challenge in them.

“They sense that Will is hurt. They’re going for him.” Torin let me know through our connection.

I felt the pain from Will, pain and suffering that I had to block. I had to focus on the battle.

“William, get your wolf ass behind me.”

One of the Demons, a weird looking one, sat back. Most Demons had short hair and an androgynous look. This one had slick, long, white hair and eyes that sparkled black in the darkness. He leaned forward, mumbling something. A ray of energy pushed through the Demons, making their claws grow and pushing them even further.

Torin fought three at the same time. He jumped, ducked, and ripped into their flesh, pulling the meat from their bodies and breaking bones with a loud crunch.

Will was still trying to fight, but I felt his energy fading. He used all his resources to stand his ground , but the silver slipped into his bloodstream, making him sick. I was not sure if he’d survive.

“Gunnar, Gunter, come over and protect Will.”

Gunnar and Gunter were incredible fighters. Gunnar flashed his teeth and snapped after the Demon. The Demon charged. Gunnar grabbed his arm, wringing for control. A bone snapped. It was a sound so loud it echoed through the entire yard. Gunnar yelped in pain.

Will was already down. Torin tried his best to keep the line of defense up. His teeth ripped into flesh and broke bones. The Demon leader stood there, waiting. He chanted something.

My wolves were being slaughtered, and I would not allow that.

I used my alpha strength and the power given to me by the gods to shake myself free from the Demons. My hind legs pushed my mass. I broke free from the Demons, using one to propel me, and landed with a war cry on top of the white-haired leader. Our eyes met. He only laughed as I pressed my teeth into his shoulder.

“You can kill me, but there will be others.”

I was happy that I had no human speech in wolf form. The bad guys always feel this need to say something funny. How witty of them.

My strong jaw flexed. I felt the moment the Demon’s spine broke under pressure. His eyes closed, and the energy flux he sent to the others stopped. I released the dead Demon from between my jaws, trying to clean my tongue of the disgusting taste it left inside my mouth.

“What you did worked, alpha,” said Torin. “Let’s kick some Demon ass.”
