SOREN

Karl was dead. His limp form lay on the autopsy table, his wounds dripping with blood. The beaver shifter stood behind me, exposing his neck.

“I can take care of this, sir. No need to worry.”

My eyes darted to his. I felt the wolf underneath my skin. “Have you found out anything?”

“I talked to her friend, Aly, the other nurse. She doesn’t know anything.”

My teeth elongated. He was so submissive. Only I didn’t know or trust him.

“If you play me, I’ll find you and kill you.”

The beaver shifter fell to his knees. “Please, I would never. I’m so alone. There are no others like me. All I want is to have a pack again.”

“Get up. Show me your loyalty by disposing of this piece of trash. And call me when you find out anything.”

He nodded, still kneeling, his throat still exposed in submission.

“Yes, sir. I will, sir.”

I stormed out of the hospital, jumped on my motorcycle, and called Torin.

“The fucker nurse who worked at the hospital with Yana was with the Demons. He said that her asshole ex-husband is involved with Demons, too. Call the Chicago Pack. Ask Rupert to find him. He owes me one.”

“Yes, alpha.” Torin then asked in the most serious tone. “What about Alistair?”

“What about him?” The last thing I cared about was that fucker. Maybe he ruined my relationship with Yana. Maybe he got Yana killed. How could I ever forgive him for anything like that?

“He’s sorry, Soren.” Torin talked to me the way my best friend would. He was calm, a true beta.

“I don’t want to see him, ever.”

“He needs to talk to you.”

Before I could say a word, Alistair was on the phone.

“What?” I barked. I was more wolf than human.

“You can’t feel her, right?”

“How do you know?”

“They did the same with Mia. I couldn’t feel her until it was too late. A warding spell. But I have an idea. Meet me outside of town.”

“Where?”

“The old gas station.”

I was grabbing for straws and needed some hope.

“Okay. But we’re not good, Alistair.”

“I know. Let’s save my daughter.”

I swallowed. I had no other lead. I was ready to burn this damn town to the ground to find Yana, but I had no idea where she was.
