“She has a healer’s spirit,” I said and felt the truth in the words.

“You called her fierce.” Charlie raised his brow, a smug expression on his face.

“When threatened.”

He rolled his eyes again and walked toward the kitchen, Clawdia meowing at his ankles.

I joined my friends on the sofa. “That was a long conversation,” Daithi noted.

“Yes.” I didn’t want to talk about it with them yet. I didn’t want to think about the possibility that Charlie was right.

Savida asked, “He has not found your soul pair?”

“Not yet.”

Daithi leaned forward and stared at me intently, a lock of green hair falling into his eyes. “I know, Zaide. Charlie is skeptical because he doesn’t know my visions. But I know. I know she is yours. You will meet her.”

“What if I don’t?” I whispered.

“Don’t entertain the thought.”

We were all quiet as we sat in our own thoughts. Savida broke it. “I like the human Charlie. He belongs, don’t you think?”

“It’s a bit early for that, beloved,” Daithi told his lover.

“Ah, but I don’t think it is. I think he should come home with us after we have found Margaret. He is lonely here.”

I glanced at the kitchen and realized that Savida was right. Charlie didn’t have anyone. I had just revealed all my secrets to him. He was now as knowledgeable as Savida and Daithi about my situation. I trusted him. When he found Margaret, I would owe him.

I nodded. “He should.”

“Zaide will have a brother to play with.” Savida laughed. “They already argue so well.”

My lip twitched at his antics. “We might be a family, but you are not my parents.”

Daithi’s eyes sparkled as he said, “This adventure will see you partner with your soul pair. How could we not feel as proud as parents on the eve of a joining ceremony?”

I pouted and folded my arms huffing, playfully. “Stop it.”

Savida laughed and opened his mouth to speak when Daithi suddenly collapsed. “Dai?” Savida checked his eyes and said, “A vision.”

I nodded and stood to join Charlie in the kitchen, leaving Savida to make his lover comfortable.

Charlie was chopping something, and Clawdia was lying on the counter, watching him. “You are making a midday meal?”

“Yeah. Should be about ten minutes. Why?”

“Daithi has just fallen into a vision. He might be a while.”

Charlie looked up from his chopping quickly. “Is he okay? Does he need anything?”

Savida joined us then, the door clanging loudly behind him. “No, he’ll be fine. We’ll know when he wakes if he needs anything.”

“I suppose we should wait for Daithi to wake up before we go out.”

Savida agreed with a sad huff. He picked Clawdia up and placed her on his head again. “My slave master will distract me until he rouses from his vision.”
