“You may like her as a human too when you realize what she is like.”

“I might.” I already lusted after her. “But I wouldn’t get between you both.”

“That’s not—”

Incessant beeping interrupted us. I looked at my computer screen and clicked on the alert. The location. I checked again.

“Got you,” I whispered.

“The witches?” Zaide asked excitedly. I grinned at him but said nothing as adrenaline flooded me and I ran out of my office.

Dashing into the living room, I saw Daithi asleep with the book he took from Deb’s house open and face down on his chest.

I shook him awake. “Daithi, I found her. I found her.”

Daithi woke up blearily, asking, “Found who?” Then he shot up. “The witch?”

“Yeah, the witch.”

“Well, where is she?”

“Sweden.”

“Sweden?” Daithi asked, the hope in his eyes fucking killed me. For all we knew, it was already too late. “Where is that?”

“It’s a different country. I bet Winnie and Mary are with her. They’ve probably boarded a flight and gone.”

“Then we must also go.” He stood.

I rubbed my hands together. “You can portal us there?”

He sagged and shook his head. “I would need to have seen the place.”

“I can show you a picture.”

I turned back to my office to print one off, but he grabbed my arm. “No, seen in my visions or my own eyes. A picture does not give me the connection I need.”

“Fuck.” I grimaced. “It’s going to take me a little time to sort stuff out if we are getting there via plane. We’ll need ID for you guys and Clawdia, and then I can book the flights and get a hotel.”

“How long will that take?” Desperation began leaking into his voice.

I tried to mentally calculate, but there were too many variables. I shrugged and said, “A few hours? More? I’ll need to ask my contact.”

He nodded and his green hair fell into his eyes. “What about Savida?”

“He has to come with us?” I groaned.

“The sooner we can get his fire back to him, the better.”

I had a sneaking suspicion it was so Savida’s body would still be near him but decided not to question it and leave him be. “All right. Fuck. How are we going to transport a body?” I exclaimed, running a hand through my hair. I took a breath. “Right, I’m going to do a bit of research and figure this out.”

I ran out of the room, hope filling me. I was bouncing with anticipation and knew just who to contact about IDs.

A deep, familiar voice filled the speakers of my phone, and I smiled. “Hello, Adam speaking. Can I help you?”

“Hi, Adam. It’s Charlie Bennett. How’ve you been?” I chuckled slightly. I hadn’t contacted Adam in years, not since I cut ties with the criminal world. He was like me in that he didn’t want to be a bad guy but didn’t have other options. He used to say that when he had enough money to go legal, he would. But skills are valuable, and when people know you, there’s no real way of getting out of the business.

Shock colored his voice. “Well, I never. Charlie Bennett. What the fuck you calling me for?” He knew I wasn’t calling for a friendly catch up.
