Before I knew it, my cheek was cupped by his large hand, my head tilted to the side, baring my neck, and his breath warmed my skin as those fangs sank into me.

It hurt … for a second. Like the pinch of a needle.

But then pleasure unlike anything I’d ever known curled in my stomach. My mouth fell open in a soft moan, and my eyes closed as wave after wave of heat ran through my body. Baelen echoed my moan with a growl and gripped my hip firmly, pulling me closer so our bodies pressed intimately together.

For a moment, my senses seemed heightened. His fangs withdrew from the punctures they’d created, but his warm lips stayed firm, locked around the wound. As he sucked, encouraging my blood to flow into his mouth, his teeth grazed over the tender holes, making me shudder and moan again.

I could hear a loud heartbeat—I didn’t know if it was mine or his—thumping rapidly, and my breaths quickened. I became aware of my nipples brushing the inside of my t-shirt as my chest heaved and how my thighs clenching together only added to the budding pressure inside me. Liquid desire coated my underwear.

Nothing has ever felt so good. Why is it so good? So good.

Delirium had my thoughts jumbled and repeating and me biting on my lips to hold back more sounds of pleasure. While his tongue continued to dance around my skin in unpredictable patterns, my head spun, and my knees weakened. I gripped his shirt with one hand and threw my other arm around his neck to stay upright.

My touch seemed to throw him into a frenzy. He growled again, and his grip on me tightened almost to the point of pain as he drank deeply.

And then it stopped. He pulled away so quickly my arms were still up and embracing the air when I opened my eyes to find him breathing deeply, leaning heavily on the back of the bench, his face shrouded by his hair.

I blinked, feeling bereft and confused and fragile. “Baelen?” I asked hesitantly.

“Sun.”

Confused, I repeated, “Sun?”

He lifted his head and straightened. His white fangs stood out against his dark skin and hair, but they were beaded with drops of blood that matched the red of his eyes. My blood. It stained his lips, and after feeling so much pleasure from his bite, my gaze was instantly drawn to them.

"You taste like something untouchable, bright, powerful." Desire flashed in his gaze, and I gulped as an aftershock of heat ran through me. “You taste like liquid sun. Like light.”

I liked the words he used even if it was a compliment about my blood. I was all those things as Clawdia the cat, but knowing it was inside Clawdia the human too made me feel stronger.

A shy smile crept over my face, and my cheeks heated with a blush. “That’s a strange compliment, but I’ll take it.”

“Are you well?” He came around the bench again to stand in front of me.

I swallowed. “I-I, well, yes. I mean, why wouldn’t I be?” I ended on a squeak which would have embarrassed a mouse. My cheeks burned even hotter.

A smirk slowly curled up the edge of his lip. “Perhaps it was unfair not to warn you of the effect of my bite.”

I said nothing but gave him a look that told him I agreed.

He surprised me when he ran a finger down my cheek. “You’ll wake up in a moment, but I’ll still be with you. I will help you get out.”

CHAPTER7

CLAWDIA

Iopened my mouth to ask how the control worked, but he had already started to blur. The green of the world and the red of Baelen’s eyes began to fade to black. Alarmed, I tried to reach out to him, but my hand slipped through his chest.

“Wake up.”

My eyes snapped open, and my heart raced. I looked around to see Zaide and Charlie still asleep. Charlie had rolled away from me, and despite being smashed into the cold, hard floor, his face was relaxed and calm. Zaide had returned to his corner, guarding his back as his head hung against his shoulder, his expression pinched.

Guilt twisted in my stomach as I thought about the intimacy I’d experienced with Baelen. A stranger. Not the man I’ve had a crush on since I was first reborn in this life or the soul pair who has been nothing but devoted since he first found out about me.

What kind of person did it make me to want yet another man? To have been so enraptured by his bite?

“You were attempting to save them and didn’t know the effect of my bite. Now, we must act quickly so do not waste our time feeling guilty.”

I flinched, knocking my head against the ground. “Baelen?” I whispered as I looked around in the dim light.
