Charlie smirked. "Come here then, you weirdo." He opened his arms, and Savida dived into them, and we all chuckled.

When he pulled away from Charlie, he finally turned to me. “My master!” he exclaimed before picking me up and holding me above his head so I could see his stubby black horns under the mess of flame-red hair.

I squealed and held on to my towel tightly. "Hello, Savida. Nice to meet you in person."

He popped me back down and began, "Daithi explained what happened, and it is unbelievable. I can see the cat in your eyes and hair, but I have to say I much prefer you like this."

“You do?”

“But of course! Your feline form holds far too much power. Such big eyes and pitiful cries could make any great beast bow to your will.” He shuddered dramatically, and I grinned. “No, it’s far better that you are human so no one will fall prey to your whims again.”

I opened my mouth to tell him I could change back but decided to surprise him with that another time and give him another taste of cute fluffy power.

"Aw for fuck’s sake! I wanted to tell you the story! I bet Daithi skipped how he was an arsehole the entire time you were gone." Charlie crossed his arms, drawing my attention to his pecs and the drops of water running through the curly brown hair that sparsely covered his chest.

Yum.

Savida raised his brow. "He did omit that, but I'm sure it was only out of worry for me."

Charlie hummed his disagreement but said nothing more on the subject. "Where is he anyway?"

"In the living room. We just got back—"

"Looking for us, I assume," Zaide finished with a smile and then moved past us out into the hallway.

But Savida's face was somber.

They weren't looking for us.

Charlie came to the same conclusion, and we rushed out after Zaide to find him frozen to the spot, his eyes staring at Daithi and his newest rescue—another demon.

"So, this is where you've been," he said emotionlessly. My heart squeezed at his obvious attempt to cover his pain. "You rescued a demon?"

"Yes."

Savida stepped to stand next to Daithi. "You don't understand the suffering—"

"No, I do understand. I'm glad you've been rescued, and I hope you can heal as Savida did," he told the demon. Like Savida, he had dark skin, but his hair wasn't flame red. It was flame blue and fell to his shoulders in ringlets. I bit my lip and side-eyed Charlie, the tension in the room palpable. Charlie grimaced and glanced at me, knowing exactly how I felt.

"Zaide, Charlie, Clawdia, this is Alcor."

Alcor nodded, and Zaide nodded back. Charlie walked forward and offered his hand. "Welcome to the gang, Alcor. I bet you're glad to be out of that hole."

I stared at Charlie in horror.

“You can't just bring up a traumatic topic like that!”

“He's fine,”Charlie responded through our bond.

"I'm very grateful for your help in my release, human. I understand you freed my fire to return to my body."

"Fucking right I did." He puffed up his chest, and I smothered my laugh with my hand. I looked at Zaide, hoping he found Charlie peacocking funny too, but he continued staring at Daithi, a war waging in his head.

"Are you rescuing more? Do you know where they are?" Zaide asked.

Savida replied cheerfully, "Ah, no need to worry about that! We have been portaling around the world and digging them up. We found fifty demons buried in the ground just as I was! And yesterday, we sent them all home in another portal."

"I wanted to stay to get my revenge on those that hurt me," Alcor told us darkly.
