Her face was the picture of horror and disgust when she realized what I'd said. “You’ve been defecating in the cave?”

I sighed. The witches were right bastards. You ruin one spell …

“They quite literally didn’t give us a pot to piss in, so yeah, we’ve got a piss-and-shit corner.” I pointed to the other side of the cage, which was further away and darker and conveniently had a dip in it, so the liquids rolled out of the cage not further into it.

She put the cup down and crawled toward the bars. I could feel a distant ache in my body. An ache that I recognized wasn't my own.

"Clawdicat—" I started to tell her to sit down and relax, but she interrupted.

With her hand on a bar, she asked, “Have you tried to get out of the cage?”

I gave her an are-you-for-real look and said mockingly, “No, Clawdia, I’ve been sitting here looking at the bars and considering getting indoor plumbing and wallpaper.”

She rolled her eyes, sat back on her knees, and crossed her arms. It was an assertive pose for someone who'd spent a lot of the previous week crying, and for some strange reason, it turned me on. “What did you try to do?”

I stuffed my weird feeling back inside whatever kinky box in my brain had sprung open at the sight of her sassiness and crawled toward her. “I banged on them a bit," I said, demonstrating. "I set Zaide on them, but he couldn't make them budge." I pushed on the bars, but when my hands slid between the bars to pull them, a forcefield appeared, a frosted blue energy that zapped me, making me flinch. "But when we put the cup out, we don't get zapped," I explained.

"That's it? You tapped the bars? I thought you both had new powers." Her shoulder drooped.

I shrugged. "Didn't get an instruction manual with them, though. No section called 'How to Escape the Magic Forcefield.' I don't know enough to try anything."

She grinned. "Maybe you can write it when we escape."

"Love that plan." I smiled back at her and then turned to the bars. "Just need to get out." I pushed at them again before sighing and turning to lean my back against them. Clawdia watched me with an expressionless look. "You got any bright ideas, Miss Cat?"

She looked down as she thought, and then she jumped, and her eyes jolted to meet mine. “You said you could put the cup out. Maybe I can walk out with it as a cat. Maybe that will confuse the forcefield.”

“That’s not a bad idea. Do that.” I got to my knees in anticipation, but she stared at me. "What?"

She said demurely, “Please turn around.”

“Oh, yeah, sorry.” I shuffled around and listened to the sound of clothes rustling and panting as she transformed.

When I heard a meow, I turned to find the Clawdia I knew and loved in her fluffy cream coat and white face. I picked up the cup, downed the leftover water, and offered it to her. It took a bit of doing, but she managed to get a grip on it between her teeth.

"Good girl, Clawdicat. Get us the fuck out of here," I whispered.

She walked with determination to the bars. She was slight enough to get through, and the bars allowed the cup to pass, and then her face got through. Elation lit me up. She’d done it! She’d gotten through and out. We were one step closer to getting free.

Fuck yes!

But just as her paw stepped out from between the bars, the blue forcefield flashed and blasted her away. I felt the jolt of pain as she hit the hard floor and bounced like a skimmed pebble across water.

“Fuck. Clawdicat, you okay?” I crawled over to her and scooped her into my arms, looking for any damage. She trembled uncontrollably. I pulled her tighter to my chest and stroked her soft fur to feel for injury. I looked at Zaide for help, but he was in another world, another time, not seeing anything that was happening in the cage.

Suddenly I had a naked woman in my arms instead of a fluffy cat. I flinched instinctively.

“Sorry,” she whispered, trying to cover herself. Not that it did any good. Her soft skin was like satin in my hands, and the weight of her body pressed against my chest. Instant hard-on. I shut my eyes and shifted her away from the betraying part of my body.

“Nothing to be sorry for. Just wasn’t expecting that. You okay?” Her pain was a distant throb in my mind.

“Just a bit dazed,” she said and cringed as she got up off my lap. I kept my eyes closed, my hand covering my face as she got dressed. There was no need to add fuel to the fire already simmering inside me. “You can open your eyes now.”

I peeked between my fingers, and seeing her all covered up had me sighing and throwing my hand away dramatically. “Well, that didn’t go according to plan.”

She pouted. “No. I had hoped for a different result.”

We sat in contemplative silence for a little while until we heard footsteps echoing in the caves. Multiple footsteps.
