"I don't understand how you’re here, how you found me, or how you're free but—" He squeezed.

A groan sounded from behind us, and we immediately separated to face it. Thos bent down to brush the woman's hair out of her face and big brown eyes blinked at us. "Thos … there's two of you. Except one … has long hair … and perfect teeth. I don't like him," she said.

I coughed to cover my chuckle, but Thos wasn't amused. He ignored her comments and lectured her, "You taunted him, and you could have been killed, idiot. You should have let me deal with it."

"You … always deal."

Thos closed his eyes, his face pinched with pain. "I can't stand to see you hurt," he whispered.

"You're sitting down." And she gave him a cheeky grin that melted him.

I smiled, glad to see that despite being a slave, Thos had found someone to care for and who cared for him in return. Allies were important, but friends were rare. I knew that from my own time as a slave. "Your female is funny, Thos."

He spun around, clearly forgetting that I was there. The female's eyebrows shot up as she looked at me with more awareness in her eyes and then whispered, "Thos, the other you is talking. Did I injure my head?"

I laughed again. "Perhaps I can help heal you."

"Heal her? How? You have medicine for humans?"

I shook my head. "I have my titan power. It’s healing."

"What? You found your soul pair? How did you know who they were?"

I blushed at the memory and looked at the ceiling of the barn. A rat scurried along a beam. "There is a physical reaction, one you wouldn't be able to miss."

I noticed the glance he sent to the human and understood. Perhaps the fate of the titans was changing. "Explain everything," Thos demanded.

"Let me heal her first." I kneeled to her side and helped her sit up, wincing as she winced, reminding me how frail humans were and how scared I was for Clawdia.

With unexpected ease, I was able to find the threads and saw her orange one getting closer and closer to red with every passing second. I poured my power into the thread, which immediately turned green, causing her to gasp along with Thos, who watched the thick, bloody wounds on her back close and fade. The only reminder they ever existed was the dried flakes of blood on her skin and torn clothes.

"Gods. You really do have your power. Where is your soul pair?" Thos asked.

For a long while, I sat with them, cross-legged in the hay, and told them my story. The human was full of emotions as I explained my life as a slave and how I ended up in the human realm searching for my soul pair.

I omitted a few things so as not to upset her further, but the knowing look in Thos's eye told me that he heard the truths in my silence. Thos asked about the gods and how I found them and admitted to being rather faithless in recent years, and although I didn't blame him at all, I told him that because of this, the gods were dying and needed our help.

The question that stood out the most to me came from the human. "You are sharing your soul pair with her witch? Charlie?" she asked timidly, and I noticed Thos glance at her with a slight pout to his lips.

"I am." I raised a brow to see if she would add anything else.

"You aren't jealous?"

I shook my head easily. "Much has happened for us in a short period of time, and we have bonded because of it. Charlie feels like a brother to me, and he is as connected to her as I am. They have known each other longer and are of the same world, so sometimes I miss out on their jokes and don't understand their references. But my relationship with Clawdia is unique, and we will also develop our jokes and references as we learn more about each other. I cannot rush it."

They said nothing, and we all stared at each other in comfortable silence until a shout echoed from outside, "Thos, Emily, get your useless hides out here now!"

They gasped and stood up. "You need to go," Thos said hurriedly, trying to pick me up and rush me out.

"Go? I cannot leave you here. I can get you both home with me. You must come."

"You've already helped enough. More than you'll ever know. We can help ourselves now, so please leave, and one day soon, we'll see you again."

"No. I'm not leaving you. I was taken away before, but I won't willingly leave you with your master now. I won't let you suffer anymore."

"Always the hero."

"Where are you? Come here. I won't ask again." The large barn doors swung open, letting in the sand and heat from outside, and Creath stormed in. He spotted me immediately. "Who are you? Trespasser! Thief! Come to steal my goods and slaves! I'll teach you."
