After this we all piled into the convoy of cars, and like last time, Lucius sat next to me. Then he took my hand, laying it on his lap so he could play with my fingers.

“Are you doing that so I won’t bite them?” I asked.

“I’m doing this to help you relax, Sweetheart. Besides, this should come a lot easier now that we don’t have a naughty Imp about spilling our secrets.” I laughed at that, agreeing,

“Well, that’s true.”

“It will all be fine, Love, and now that your cousin has been found, I hear that she will be spending it in London?” he said, reminding me of these facts and making me sigh, because this had also been another big worry of mine during these last seven weeks. Of course, as per usual for the life of one of the Kings’ Chosen, it was complicated and despite how much I had wanted to intervene, I learned my lesson with this after turning up at Jared’s club. After that, things had gone from bad to worse and after I had given my cousin Ella a little bit too much information about our Supernatural world, I had promised not to get involved again.

However, when she went missing for a time, well that had been the hardest weeks to endure. Doing nothing had no longer been an option, it just turned out that doing something hadn’t helped either. But now she was back and despite how desperate I was to go and see her, Lucius had urged me not to at Jared’s request. Things had gotten even more complicated and if I had showed up during this delicate time, then it would have only made matters worse. And for once, I agreed with them, so continued to let Jared play it his way. Which meant that I wouldn’t be seeing her at Christmas this year.

“Besides, now that I agreed to partake in this family tradition, I find that I am quite looking forward to experiencing it.” Hearing this drew me from my thoughts and made me shout,

“Really?!” Of course, this made him grin at me with that gleam in his eyes he usually got when he found me endearing.

“I am… wait, is that why you are worried, because you think I won’t enjoy this?” he guessed, now making me look sheepish.

“Maybe,” I admitted, making him say my name in that same way he always did.

“Amelia.”

“Yeah?”

“Come here, my Khuba,” he said in that soft, affectionate way I adored.

“My joy comes from watching your own, and a sure way of making me experience that is for you to be yourself and enjoy this time with your family. In my eyes, it may be a day like any other, but if it is one that comes with extra smiles and a reason to shower you with gifts, then it will be a day I will enjoy all the more.” At this I hugged him tighter and told him,

“Have I told you I love you today?”

“Well, I believe I was between your legs at the time, so it may have been a little muffled.” At this I smacked his chest in fake outrage. But then I remembered what he’d said and focused back to that.

“Wait, so does that mean some of those gifts on the plane are for me?” He smirked and said,

“Maybe.”At this I threw my arms around him again and said,

“Then here it is unmuffled… I love you, husband.” I felt his chuckle as he wrapped his arms around me and said,

“I love you too,my little Claus.”

MEMORIES PRESERVED

We were walking through the halls of Afterlife on our way to the sitting room where Ragnar said everyone would be. He had gone on ahead after I had asked for some of his security team to help take in the gifts they had packed in the convoy of cars.

I had also been in the process of telling Lucius that, this year, my mum had assured me that she had toned it all down a bit so as to ease him into the festivities gradually. However, the second we opened the door, I had to wonder if during our short walk here I had somehow managed to be drugged.

“What the…?!”

“Er… you were saying, Pet?” Lucius asked the moment our brains took in the madness. In fact, our eyes both widened in sight of the Christmas wonderland on crack that my family home had been transformed into. It was like a total contrast to how the nightclub looked, as that had been all stylish black trees covered in purple fairy lights and silver ribbons as thick as my waist. It was gothic but elegant, and no doubt was all down to my aunt Sophia.

Now as for this, well it looked like my mum had robbed Macy's entire Christmas selection!

“I know, I know, I might have gone a bit mad this year,” my mum admitted when we walked into the large sitting room and my mouth had just dropped. She hugged me to her and when she looked at my casual red dress, I could tell she was already planning which Christmas sweater she would make me wear tomorrow. I bet the damn thing was already laid out on my bed waiting.

“Dear Lord,”Lucius muttered next to me before I elbowed him, making him cough before saying,

“Naturally, what I mean to say is it looks lovely, Keira Girl.” At this my mother frowned and was about to say something in retaliation, when Zagan looked to be juggling presents.
